Tried the new "Big and Small" map script. Supposed to make a world with continents and island chains. We are Innovians (Dutch) on a standard map noble dificulty.

We have a bunch of forested hills around Amsterdam, so I started toward Bronze Working and a worker while our warrior has a look around.

Met the Vikings out west. Ragnar sounds like a nice chap, I hope we'll be great friends.

Nice start! What are our starting techs? We might want to get agriculture and AH soon.

By the way, which wonder shall we chop? Great Wall looks attractive, Pyramids too.

We start with agriculture and fishing and just finished mining.

Okay, what about Bronze Working - Animal Husbandry - Masonry (Wonder chopping)?

That tech path sounds fine but since we have Marble how about going for Great Library, Parthenon or Mausoleum of Whatshisname?

That are all pretty late wonders though, and anyway you want to put it, the Pyramids rule.

Meh, we're not spiritual so we can't switch that often, besides we can use the early game to expand then.

Are there any other players or concerned lurkers, we could use a tie breaker.

You can count me in as a player. :)

Since we are financial it seems that a mainly cottage economy is the best choice and as such the usefullness of the pyramids, considering the early sacrifices we'd have to make, is not that fantastic. The fact that we have marble tips the balance in favour of building some of the later wonders, the great library and/or the mausoleum of mausollos, that requires less of a sacrifice.

I'm out of town next week and civ-less, but could take a set the week after. From what I can remember the tomb has some nice effects. I've also been trying to grab the SoZ in my (very few) games to keep others from giving me the +100% WW.

I can play a round too.

For the strategy, we should expand our options in a general direction, since we need to map more. We should also research techs enabling us to take advantage of both ivory and marble in the same go.

This limits our options to follow:

1. Animal Husbandry (we need to work the cows anyways, and we need to see if we have horses or not.

(We begin working the rice paddy and the cows)

2. Writing

Gives us library

3. Aesthetics

Statue of Zeus (Ivory double speed), Parthenon (2x speed with marble)

4. Bronze Working

5. Mathematics (gives us 50 % more shields from forest chops)

6. Alphabet (trade all needed techs)

7. Literature (Great Library, Heroic Epic and National Epic, all double marble wonders).

8. Calendar (centers map and allows Mausoleum, also marble based wonder)-

I think the general direction of our strategy should follow the cluster of "marble&ivory wonders" that is located after writing. We should also pick up mathematics before we even think of chopping our forests.

I volunteer to play next bout (for only 20 turns or so) is that ok ?

Yes. lets get moving again.

All that is fine excpet its not always a good idea to hold off all chopping until math since those forests are depriving us of commerce in our river tiles.

A balancing act could be to chop a couple of river points then delay the rest? Sounds like a good idea?

I played enough along the way to make some sense on research, maps, meeting civs and so on, and thus getting a comfortable lead (1000 BC).

Ahem, report? save?

BTW speaking of wonders we want to be sure and build the Apastolic Place. That thing is nothing but fun. :)

Dutch, your up.

Dutch, your up.

Wait a second, I still haven't got BtS to work. I'm working on it though, and I hope to get it installed ASAP. I went over to my friends house yesterday around 13.00 to check if the problem was with my disc.

"Nope, disc works fine here"
"Yeah, it does, let's see if we can install the game"
"Sure"
"Yeah, it installs just fine"
"Let's see if it starts up too"
"Okay"
"Yeah, it does"
"Shall we check if it plays allright too? Just a couple of turns?"
"Sure"

"Just one more turn"

"Dude, it's 18.45 now"
"No way"
"Yeah, it is"

Unfortunately I can't take a turnset now either. I've reformatted the drive and installed a new graphic card (that I got as an early birthday present :)) and as expected, the usual amount of problems turned up. So I'm on a Linux computer until I manage to solve the problems.

Okay, I got it to work, however it's pretty slow, I can't patch it (don't ask), and all animated leaderheads don't show up. It's working though, and that's something.

I will post the executive summary when the beer wears off. :)
