install did not add start menu shortcuts and game not saving

I installed on my laptop with Vista home premium, the copy works on my desktop PC which has weaker specs. First thing I noticed is that when installing Civ4 and Warlords, it adds desktop and start menu shortcuts, but Beyond didn't do either.

Also when trying to save game I get an error:

Error creating file <filename>

I should add that on the install prior to this one (second try) the game would crash on random occasions but mostly on the loading map status before starting a game..

Note that I am using a burned version since my my original game disc no longer works since it's all scratched. Once again, it works on the desktop PC but not on the laptop...

Any solutions? :/

the problem with the save is that your my games folder is likely write protected - remove the read only flag.
the missing shortcut is a bug in the bts installer - which is neigh impossible to fix - they'd have to recall all the discs for that but you should be able to create your own easily...

It still isn't working. I've tried changing the settings on both the directory containing the game and the game's directory and still nothing.

Actually it keeps coming back to read only every time I reboot...

that is a problem with the permissions settings in windows vista.
the best way would be: remove the game. Install it again give the installer and all patches express permission to run as administrator.
