I am an old hand at Civ, but brand new to iMac. I just opened the box a few hours ago for my first-ever APple computer and set up my iMac Intel Core 2 Duo (MA590LL/A). After that was done, I shoved my brand new Civ IV (MacDVD version) into the slot and...I quickly get the message that I have insufficient free space!@??. What the heck? My specs show I have like, 400 GB free, more free space than the 3.5 Gb required. I am also well over all the other minimums--I mean this is the newest Apple model on the market and I can't even install one measley game? Before you laugh, keep in mind that I am not a techie and haven't the foggiest idea how to install a game onto an iMac. The manual sucks, as does the Apple website. I can only find info on how to install the bundled software, which I already did. What stupid and obvious thing have I neglected here? How loudly will I say "Duhhhh" when someone tells me what would seem clear to moderately bright toddler? Help! I just want my CIV!!!

Welcome :wavey:

To install Civ4, you have to drag the entire Civ4 folder from the DVD to an appropriate place on your hard drive, copying the software. I put mine in /Applications/, but others seem to create folders like /Games/, /Applications/Games/ etc.

You are trying to double click the game application while it's still on your DVD, and it can't write to the DVD so it complains. The error message isn't very helpful :)

PS. The manual may not be wonderful, but my printed copy has the following on page 8:

INSTALLATION

To install Sid Meier's Civilization IV:

1. Insert the Sid Meier's Civilization IV DVD into your DVD ROM drive

2. Double click the DVD icon that appears on your desktop

3. Drag the Sid Meier's Civilization IV folder from the DVD to the location on your hard drive where you would like to install the game.

Apart from the fact that I seem to recall the folder on the DVD is just called Civilization IV, this seems straightforward.
