I have a computer that uses Windows XP as the operating system. When installing Civ 3, it goes up until 69% the freezes for about a minute then a error message comes up that says "Cyclic Redundacy". It also mentions the file it was installing off of the cd(sound file). Has anyone seen or heard about this problem, or have an idea how to fix it? I tried downloading XP upgrades however that did not fix the problem.

I have Civ 3 working now.... Ok here is what happened:

I installed the updates.

Then without installing the game again, I was able to get the game to work.

That means it was really installed on the hard drive however it required the updates to be recongized. Still... very strange since it never did get beyond 69% when it was installed.

I've had the same problem, several CRC errors in one single installation attempt. I just told it to "ignore", but I'd like to get to the root of this, I'll take Perfection's advice and scout for some updates.

A CRC error is when the data being transferred becomes corrupted - like the old "error reading from drive A Abort, Retry, Fail".

A CRC is a mathematical function that is sort-of like a credit card check algorithm. It basically makes sure that the data received is the data transmitted. Did you try installing across a network or cable connection of some kind by any chance?

Well, I didn't download any updates, but I consulted my father, he told me that since I was installing through the CD burner it was having problems, so using the CD-ROM drive instead allowed the install to proceed without a hitch.
