I have the original Civ III disc and i have had no trouble in the past installing the game. However one day the when i try to install the game, the install shield pops up and says "Do you want to completely remove the selected applications and all of its components?". I have not even installed the game yet, but it talks of uninstalling the game. Anyone know what i should do?

I am running win98 and i have an 8G Hard-drive.

Did you format your harddisk since you last installed it? You say you had it installed previously, but need to install it again? How did it get un-installed in the first place?

If you had it installed, but deleted the directory (to make free space or something), then most probably the information from the game is still in the registry. You might check the Control Panel and then Add/Remove games. Civ III might still be listed there if you just deleted the directory the previous time.

In any case, what I would recommend you do is the following. If you want to install the game, and it asks about un-installation instead, then do the un-installation. This should free the registry of all information lingering from a previous install. After you completed the un-installation step (unnecessary as you think it may be), then try to install again, and see if it works better.

civ is not in my registry, i clean all traces of civ out earlier today and yesterday. I have place most of my CD information and files inside of the Infogrames Folder. I am still getting the do you want to uninstall message even after saying yes. I deleted the folder because i wanted free space. Its limited. Civ is not in the Add/remove section either. I have tried everything and it is still not working. I have not formatted my harddrive; i have only re-installed Windows 98 ( which i may think may be the problem.). I still have no clue as to why this is acting this way. Atari's site does not help. Does anyone else have any ideas to make this work?(first time Civ has stumped me. ;-))

I believe the problem may be related to InstallShield. I am at work, and cannot check the details, but... There should be an InstallSheld directory somewhere (Program Files?) that holds install/uninstall information. Check to be sure it does not have Civ3-related data in it - you may need to just delete the entire folder.
