Installing Civ V for Mac from downloaded dmg

I am at my wits end (maybe I didn't have much to start with) but I first bought Civ V for PC to run in XP via Parallels on my MacPro (1,1). I have the original nVidia 7300GT and a newer card is on the way. I can get to the Intro movie ...
BUT ...
While going through the threads CIV V for Mac was announced so I bought the digital download and have downloaded it to my work MacBook (much newer than my MacPro) but when I tried to register it on steam with the Mac serial # steam told me I already owned it. I have made a new Steam account to register the Mac version but when I double click to run the installer it verifies the files and then tells me the servers are too busy and try again later and I try and I try and I try. I think it's trying to download from Steam. I know that I have the universal access item checked.

Can I install the Mac version from the install dmg (yes it is opened) without steam by using a command like there is in the PC version?

I don't get it. If Steam says you own it, then you should be able to go to Library under Steam and just click "Install."

You can download the game, it is SteamPlay, if you own either Mac or PC version you own both
