This is starting to become annoying. Sometimes when I am browsing the internet or step away for a moment. The Internet disconnects on me. Usualy this happens when a pop-up ad apears in my main browsing window (I have MSN, if you close the main MSN window, it disconects you)

I cant since MSN & IE are the only browsers I have on my laptop.

You have probably configured your internet access through msn

BAD move

Now - are you using dial up? I imagine you are, as using broadband has nothing to do with your browser.

If so, IIRC, you should configure IE with the same settings as MSN (not sure why u use MSN in the first place, as Mozilla or IE are better alternatives - mozilla for more secure browsing and IE for windows updating)

If I were u I d remove MSN completely and set up my internet access in a different and more stable way.

AFAIK - that would solve your problem

also:

www.spybot.info <--- to remove spyware and malware

that could be an issue as well

In WinXP,

Start Menu > Connect To > [list of connections]

Right click on your dial up connection and select Properties.

Under the Options tab you will see several rules related to auto-disconnecting. See Idle Time Before Hanging Up. On a laptop this may be as low as 1 minute, and a popup in IE can take a while to appear.

----

If another program (i.e. stealth dialer - virus) tries to dial out, it will disconnect, you so check for programs that might do this but your description of the problem does not sound like this.

Im getting the feeling I have picked up a stealth dialer - virus from them damned pop-up ads. Since everytime my Modem disconnects, it usualy happens after 3-4 pop-up ads pop-up at the same time.

Is there a way to get rid of this stealth dialer virus since this what may be causing the problem.

Use VG AntiVirus (http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php), download the free version.

I looked there and I dont want to register to the site in order to download it.

This god damned disconnects are becoming annoying! Everytime several pop-ups pop up, it clogs my 56K and forces it to hang up on me, Is there a way to get rid of these Bloody annoying Pop-up ads 100% for free?

I have had it, Im going to reinstall windows to correct this problem.

Ive just reinstalled windows and it seems to fixed the problem. Now, is there any preventive measures like Spyware, Adware, and pop-up blockers that I can get for free?

www.spybot.info <-- my computer support firm (the one taking care of fixing my machine whenever it is broken...) recommends it

google for popup stopper - it comes in a free version as well as a paid version (if u re gonna use IE)
otherwise: mozilla.org - either mozilla 1.7 or firefox or bird or whatever it is called (popup blockers installed)

also google for spywareblaster - helps protect against dangerous activeX applets and such ;)

www.safer-networking.org - Spybot S&D. Make sure you update it, and immunize it. This will prevent some of the mal-ware out there.

www.lavasoftusa.com - AdAware. This with Spybot, and you're pretty much covered.

www.snapfiles.com - Go to the freeware section, and click on 'anti-virus'. Download Avast! It's a free virus checker that has received high marks from both the site and the users of the site.

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html - Spyware blaster. 3.1 does some different things, and I haven't upgraded yet. But lemme tell you this - by managing the cookies myself, immunizing with Spybot S&D, and using the older version of Spyware blaster, I rarely get any hits when I run Spybot or Adaware. These three programs together are excellent for security.

I use AVG myself, and have had no problems, via registering or otherwise. It's harmless. If nothing else, d/l this as well.

The best ones were recommended in the other threads you made, Look there.

Yep, all have been mentioned....

SpyBot, AdAware, Mozilla/FireFox...

I'd still reccomend AVG to be honest, it is quite arguably thje best free Antivirus available, but if you don't want to sign up, that is completely up to you.

Ditto, AVG is what I'm using. If it's any help, I signed up with them using a unique-to-the-signup email address several months ago and I haven't gotten a single email to that mailbox other than their initial registration key send.
