Hi,

This my first real post to this forum.
I have been reading all the strats and infos about the game on this site, and I must say, congrats to you guys.
Tonight, there is a 8 players LAN game happening in my flat (wifi and all) :)
About one quarter are good players.
half played a few short introduction games.
The last quarter never played (many played civ 1 or 2, but one never actually played a TBS game).

What would be the first stuff you tell people when entering them into the "ring" of civilization players? (I think I might be a little bit too enthousiastic when I talk about Civilization 3)
To make them able to understand the game, without being overwhelmed by the possibilities.

Btw, for thoses interrested in commenting, we are thinking of a max size map, turnless mode, no limit. (everybody had been clearly warned about the length of a Civilization 3 game).

I'm sooo happpy :)

I'd play the first game with these people as a diplomacy game and have a NO WAR policy. This way, the people won't get pissed off at the game and never play again. True, someone will want war, but everything can be negotiated.

The skillful players should help the new people as much as possible. They should explain AS MUCH as they can about the game. Explain why the Persians are good, what traits are useful and so on. Explain about content citizens and stuff (PLAY ON CHIEFTAN OR WARLORD) and how to make them not go into disorder. Explain about the governments.

Also, this could help greatly. The Pause/Break key pauses the game (each player gets 3 pauses) and you can pause it and help explain the game to them better. Tell them that GRANARIES ARE GOOD.

And in case they don't know, the ` is to talk ;)

Hope you have a fun time, as I will too try to attempt a 2 player LAN :)

I have been introducing this game to a newby myself in an hotseat game.
In fact we both played both game together.
I have been watching every move and discussed every choice of building with him trying to explain why his choice could wait and what he should do NOW giving reasons.

I would suggest you to make teams
Player 1 = Good Player + Newby
Player 2 = Average player
Player 3 = Average player
Player 4 = Newby + Good Player
Player 5 = Good Player + Newby
Player 6 = Average player
Player 7 = Average player
Player 8 = Newby + Good Player
Enjoy :)
