Invisible Rulers Problem!

Hi All

I'm having an issue with Warlords on my unibody MBP - all the ruler models aren't appearing properly, giving the effect of the rulers being invisible (except for an eerie pair of dancing eye brows, maybe, or an amorphous, vaguely person shaped, blob of ectoplasm...). Apart from this the game runs fine.

I thought at first this was because I hadn't patched the game, so I downloaded the 2.13 patch and the replacement app for QT 7.6 but that's made no difference.

I copied my install across from my old PPC PowerBook, so I'm thinking that it might just need a total reinstall, but has anyone encountered this issue or have any other advise?

Thank you
OB

Hi, welcome :wavey:

This has only ever happened to me when running the Windows version in an old version of Parallels. Clearly then it was due to limited graphics support, and it has been fixed by better graphics emulation in the current Parallels product.

I had a feeling of deja vu reading your post, as someone recently posted exactly the same symptoms, having dragged Civ4 from their PPC Mac. If this was not your first post here, I would have checked to see if you were the same poster. Since two people have now reported the same failure after a drag-copy, I would strongly recommend reinstalling Civ4 on your MBP from scratch.

Well I deleted my install and installed again including the latest patches and it was still giving me the same symptoms...

BUT, I've discovered the problem! Turning off the anti-aliasing fixes the problem - setting it to 2 or 4 causes the models to misbehave.

Thanks for your help in any case.

I have run it with various different graphics settings on my Mac Pro, including trying different anti aliasing settings, and not seen any issues.

I assume you are aware that your MBP has two GPUs. Are you running with the high performance discrete graphics option enabled?

I'm running it with the highest performance setting with the discrete Geforce 9600M GT. I haven't tried it with the integrated 9400. Setting either AA option messes up the leaderhead models, although everything else runs perfectly. Removing AA and the issue goes away.

To tell the truth I can't really tell what difference the AA makes, and in any case, compared to my old PB, this is running smooth as butter on all high settings, so I'm happy with this workaround and hopefully this thread might be of use to anyone else who is experiencing this issue.

I will try the 9400 at some stage to see if it exhibits the same symptoms.

I have the same issue on my new iMac 24", and I thought it might be a problem with the graphic settings. But I didn't look for a solution since I do not play WL much, and it looks SO funny (especially Victoria) :crazyeye:

Hmm. Civ4 seems to be very fussy about graphics hardware. Almost every new card Apple introduce for the Mac manages to create some problem or another. I suggest you raise a ticket on Aspyr's support site if you haven't done so already.
