Iowa statehouse Republicans propose bill to make university hiring party based.

Did you read this, Boots?

My takeaway: a lot of Iowans voted for Trump holding their noses, and now they're holding their breath. All they want are jobs. And the fact that he's acting like a clown instead of securing jobs has got them worried. They want him to put down Twitter.

My answer to your question "what happened"? Recoil against the national opprobrium brought to bear against that Indiana mom-n-pop pizza restaurant whose owner had the temerity to indicate that he wouldn't cater a gay wedding. I think that's where the SJWs overplayed their hand with midwesterners.
Yeah, that's a good article. It's quite likely that Trump and the GOP will end up doing much worse in the 2018 midterms and ultimately lose the 2020 election, unless they straighten up their act. I'm hoping the shift in the Midwest, and Iowa in particular, is just a one-off and it goes back to being a moderate place again.

And I totally agree about the SJWs overplaying their hand. The whole Indiana pizza place thing seemed like liberals spiking the ball and rubbing conservatives' noses in the fact that they'd lost that part of the culture war. I'm personally in favor of allowing mom and pop places not to cater gay weddings or other things they find sinful, if they put a sign up saying as such. That way I know not to go there.

(From Rachel Maddow mostly), I'm hearing promising signs regarding the Resistance movement: in terms of people being willing to step up and run, in terms of people already gearing up their vote in the midterm election.

Trump is really that bad that I think he'll spark a serious counter-movement. Now I know 2018 is tough for the Democrats. But, even among his e.g. Iowa supporters, there may prove to be Trump fatigue by 2018. He speeds everything up: fastest to fire a cabinet member, fastest to have his AG have to recuse himself. All I'm worried about is Trump fatigue fatigue. I've sometimes found my own outrage exhausted by the guy.
