Hey guys, I finally decided to ditch my cd player for an ipod. Now, I am looking for something less then $230 dollars that is very sturdy, holds enough memory to hold about 700 songs, and is simple to use. Thanks guys
The cheapest regular iPod would cost $299, and have way more songs than it sounds like you need. Unfortunately there is no 3 GB iPod Nano, which would suit you perfectly. You can go with the cheapest one, but only get 500 songs, or shell out another $20 and get enough space for all your songs; your choice.
To be honest, I'd say buy a 30GB regular iPod. For $50 you get 6,500 more song space, and the ability to play video. You may not need this now, but it's safe to say that this will probably last longer.
If you don't think you'll need more than 1,000 songs, go with the nano.
whatever you get, if possible get ahold of Apple and get thier 3rd party extended warranty. Its $50 and its 3 extra years. Now this covers the battery and everything ( im not sure about the nano, but i know its for the regualr Ipod). I have it, and its great. The batteries in an iPod will die usually after 2 1/2-3 yrs and no they arent user changeable. I only got mine cause the place I worked @ was doing the apple warranties too... well worth the price. Especially when you consider that for apple to change it, its around $200-$250 ( all in canadian dollars)
I have a 40G and its amazing. But im getting the smaller nano, i never have more than 50 songs anyways.
I have a ZEN MIRCO by CREATIVE LABS, it's only $200-$230 CAD, the 4 mg one that is. It's nice, small, esy to use, has built in FM radio, thoguh I think iPods have more attachments.
Try kelkoo.com for comparing cheapness, but I find iPods on Ebay are about 90% of the original price even for used, with added risk. Don't forget Apple do a student discount; if you aren't one, nab one you know with a student ID card and ask them to get one for you if you give them half the difference or something. Meh. Buy a creative zen touch. It may not be the latest model, but it holds 20gb, and has very good sound. Price is lower than that of the ipod. Only drawback IMO is size, since both Apple and Creative have smaller models.
Nano buyers should by default also buy some protection. The screen scratches if you so much as look at it. In fact I think it scratches if you only think about it.
And I am an ipod owner myself (20gb clickwheel, engraved).
Frankly, ipod is more gadget than creative - there is marginally better sound on the zen model, and less scratches. Design of ipod is cool though, and if you purchase a different headgear, then sound will improve on the ipod
In fact, I got the above mentioned creative mp3 player for my fiancee for the upcoming Xmas
