This ever happen to anybody? Probably has, just now had the pleasant experience.

The last game I just played, I built a FP (always do of course). Come to find out later, that city had iron and coal within the territory (iron works+FP=rock n roll).

It was so sweet. Not sure how many infantry, artillery, tanks, etc. that city pumped out. I had such a huge military. My palace was in a good location too. It kind of hurt me in the pocket book after awhile, I was pumping out so much military. So, I just went crazy with it and killed a bunch of civs and won the game.

Sometimes ... luck happens.

Was kind of nice since I lost my last 3 games.

I played on Aanar's Europe Map, as Germany. I started at Rome's location, and thats where Berlin was established.

Later in the game, I got both Iron and Coal around the capital. That beats out having FP plus Iron Works. :D

Palace + Iron works would = beyond rock n roll.

Even "God" couldn't strike you down huh? :)

That would be real sweet.

Hehe, it *is* nice.... I once had a game where I had to choose between my capital and the FP city when the time for IW came......

Another time, I got coal next to the capital, then next turn (!) I found a new source of iron. Now guess where :D

Capital+IW+Factory+Hoover Dam+Golden Age - WOW!!!!!!!

That really rocked! Name a unit - I could build it in 1 turn :D

In my last game, I could have built the Iron Works at 2 different locations. But only one of them would have been able to get any decent production out of it. It has been so long since I actually have built the Iron Works, but of course I won the game, while I still had about 15-20 turns to go before the Iron Works was completed.

Note: Make sure you micromanage your citizens, so that city is working both of those tiles ,and those tiles are mined and railroaded for awesome production!

And= Pollution from hell! But, who cares. :) I was afraid to build a factory in my iron works/fp town. I did. Kept a few workers around. I forget what "wonders" I built in that town. I know had them built before I could so much as blink an eye. I had golden age going late in the game too .. holy cow! For a moment .. I felt like a God.

I too have had the Iron Works and FP in the same city, and this in a game in which I had turned off cultural, diplo and spaceship victories, so I got completely through the tech tree and was able to build offshore platform, manufacturing plant and nuclear plant in the same city! (Had already used my GA though:() I can't remember exactly how many shields it was producing, but I was pumping out stealth bombers in 2 turns, armies in 3 turns and everything else in 1 turn! It is a joy to see when it happens, especially when you go through many games with either iron or coal one square away from where its needed in order to build an IR in a city.

(BTW, in the same game, I had three cities simultaneously able to build the IR -- on the discovery of steam power got the pop-up "Our people want to build the Iron Works. Maybe we should!" and found three potential candidates! -- never seen this before or since -- was briefly dazed by the potential production power until I learned / realized that I could only build one IR -- needless to say, it went into the city with the FP).

You guys are so lucky. I never once got to build an IW in any of my (few) SP games. :(

I played A LOT of games now. This was the first time I was EVER able to build iron works. It just so happened it ended up in my FP.

I'm always playing random stuff though. I don't make it easy on myself.

I have the joy to build the IW several times, but not yet where my FP is. I am currently building it in a game I have put on hold because it will take so long to build it due to corruption.

I wonder if anyone of you could produce ICBMs in one turn with nuclear power, factory, manufacturing plant and iron works in one city. I couldn't.

I've played an insanely large amount af games , and I've never even seen Iron Works!!!

Maybe it's because I usually play huge maps, so the probability of iron and coal being that close, is next to nothing.

Guess I should try a standard some time :)

pollution? what pollution? a 15 worker stack (all my own) will clean that up in 1 tunr :D

So did I!

No, you're right - I was only referring to conventional units, but didn't make it clear :). I certainly couldn't build ICBMs or TacNukes in one turn -- IIRC though, I could build in ICBM in 3 or 4 turns, and a TacNuke in 1 or 2 turns.

The game where I had 3 IW qualifying cities was on a huge map! I believe I just got insanely lucky. I do, however, try to place cities in areas where I think an IW might be possible later. For example, in an area with some jungle and lots of hills / mountains reasonably close to my palace or FP, I will build a city even though its near-term prospects aren't particularly great. Later in the game, with workers having built mines and cleared some of the jungles, these cities become production powerhouses, and the presence of jungle and hills allows for the possibility of an IW qualifying city.

I have passed on building the IW in just such a circumstance. Version 1.17f, huge map, sprawling empire -- the corruption was just too horrendous to try and make the city productive, and I hoped I would have an opportunity nearer my core.

Iron works even near fp or capitial is a killer.

When you can build a Panzer every single turn as Germany.
UN built in 7 turns. Last check was a city at about 120 shields.

LK21 had Iron Works with Factory and Military Academy. Talk about the ability to crank out armies.

IW probability on huge maps - this depends on the number of civs in th4e game. If you play 16, there's lots of iron and coal and you have a good chance. If you play two civs, well :(

This is sort of off topic, but someone mentioned nuclear power plant. I haven't built one, but I was wonder do they ever melt down?

If a city with a nuclear plant goes into civil disorder, there is a chance of meltdown. This would include an Anarchy civil disorder, so if your civ takes too long in switching govts, then think twice about building any. The odds are slim, according to the strat guide of a meltdown happening.

How much extra production do you get from Iron Works?? I've never been abla to build it, except once in a 95% corrupted city:mad: .

IMO, the requirements for IW are way too hard. or maybe it's me playing large maps...anyway, seems IW and me are not friends:(

One of the few times I was able to build IW, it was in a city radius with only two plains and the rest mountains. I went ahead and built the works anyway, took over 100 turns in a city with a population of two. Then I won the game by spaceship a few turns later. Wasted IW.

IMO they are hard to get, and even if you get them, they are hard to make productive.

Except for all the lucky bastards in this thread.
