Is Civ3 Racially Biased?

Here's a bit of a history lesson fellas:

The only female leader who had a STUNNINGLY INDISPUTABLY profound role in the ascension of her country was Joan of Arc. Cleopatra may have bedded her way up the ladder of Politics, but most of the leaders SHOULD be men, or at the very most, we have the option to have a female counterpart. (Woodrow Wilson's wife acted as president when he became incapacitated due to stroke. Not many people know that.)

As far as the Greeks go, I have close, personal knowledge of that. The greeks on the whole were LOADED with traits we consider recessive. They were mostly blond, curly-haired, very fair-skinned people with bright blue eyes on the whole. A large nose was also a prominent feature. Some of the people had tannish hair, but they weren't nearly as dark-skinned as most of their mediterranian counterparts. They were also quite hairless.

Historically, their life-expectancy was not very long. They were on the whole very prone to illness due to lack of sanitation. Things began to improve when the Imperial age began, however It wasn't until the Turks invaded Greece that the pure-blooded greek gave way to tanner, darker-haired Turks.

They mixed, and that's the result of new Greece. It's not a contamination, it's just change. I'm quite sure the Egyptians were once something a bit different, and they changed as well. We'll never really know, but the highest experts say that the truest-blooded old-world Egyptians are mostly dwelling in Qatar. <shrugs> I cannot remember the "type" of people they are, but some of their features are consistent (in part) with the paintings.

If anyone NEEDS to know the type of people, or the type of tribe, I'm sure I can find it somewheres...

Thanks for the history lesson, really.

The paintings differ greatly. Some are lighter, some are darker. Ancient Egypt clearly contained different "races" of people, hence trying to find the "truest-blooded old world Egyptians" is a foolhardy quest.

Just one thing I want to add here. It's a game!! Yes, it is true that the Zulu citizens are not portrayed as black. Sure, there may be some issues with Cleopatra's skin complexion. But honestly, it's really only a game. Firaxis, as with any game publisher, will only go so far with realism for a computer game. For example, think how enraged some may have been if Colonization incorporated the concept of slavery into the game. Think about how some would feel if Civilizations In Civ 3 could use some concept of slave labor in colonies to garner extra production points. Basically, Firaxis is not concerned with realism as it is concerned with being politically correct and pissing off as few people as possible while at the same time making money. The very inclusion of the Zulus in the game is probably due to Firaxis trying to be politically correct. Basically, all I'm saying is that, yeah sure, it would be a nice touch if the "black" "asian" and "white" civs' citizens all looked it, but odds are, one is not going to focus on that discrepancy as much as they'll focus on the rampant out-of-control corruption in the game or other gameplay digressions and problems. It is good to be sensative about issues such as racism in today's society and I think it's a valid concern, but I'm sure the whole citizen's complexion discrepancy was not done purposely. Many elements of the game were shoddily done, thus all the patches. Whatever though, if its such a big deal, just make sure the developers incorporate the change in Civ IV. Peace!!

Until there's a "Do you want to go to bed with me" button in the diplomacy screen, I'll always feel something lacking from international deliberation. Cleopatra just doesn't SOUND right, anyway.

Flak, you sound silly! You said that YES, you see racism in the difference between civs. (some are more cultured etc). Would you prefer every civ to be the same?

There IS a little trigger for that.
It's available every game.
It's called "Disable Civ-specific abilities".
Located right above the difficulty levels.
Next to the victory condidtions.

Oh, and as for the button "would you like to go to bed with me?" I think it would be cool, if there was a non-offensive way to include it... My opinion:
Include a on-game-creation-option named "Allow civ creation."
It adds the button. The button is usable once every 2 turns, it is only usable after a civ has been wiped out or when you have chosen fewer than max opponents.
5% of the time, both the civs involved will be asked to donate x cities (depends on map size) for the new civ. Both leaders are now Gracious.
The other 95% of the time, the leader who was asked by the other one will have their diplo stance downgraded 2 levels, and will never vote for the asker in the UN election. (Like, who votes for a ***** anyway?)

while were complaining about the leaders, I would like to not that Catherine is not considered the greatest russian leader by a long shot, Ramses should be the egyptian leader, and Elizabeth while an excelent leader, she is not considered England's finest monarch. and why isn't Sir Francis Drake an English leader?
As far as being racially balanced, It is a pain to have to adjust all the civs just so the europeans and americans achieve dominance over the asians who achieve domincance over the aztecs, who achieve dominance over the zulu and irqois like in real life. England is not a scientific nation????? The nation that gave us classical physics and modern calculus? Or how about america and her great industrial might. I'd like to see it set up so the world so emerge fairly historical (the europeans close proximity does not cripple them)
