Is this game slow for anyone but me? I have a 900mhz tbird with 512mb ram and a geforce3. It pauses a lot and take forever to go from unit to unit. I like the game but it is soooo slow, even when all my apps are closed.

I have a computer of 800mhz and each pass turns take 30 sec. But sometimes it take around 2 minutes for a pass turn:sleep:
Rarely but very annoying:suicide:

Yes the AI turns start to take quite awhile for me, even when I have "do not show enemy moves" selected. It doesn't make sense, because all it has to do is calculate a bunch of numbers (instead of CPU intensive graphics) , which is what computers were designed for... even My celeron o/c'd to 600 shouldn't suffer these wait times...

Also, is the scrolling smooth for anyone else? On mine its really chunky :/

I've got an 800mhz. On the largest map with the maximum number of civilizations turns pass so slowly at the end of the game that I usually watch some TV to pass the time.

Go into the Advanced menu for your video card and slide the hardware video acceleration two step toward the left. It will fasten a lot the process. It's a bug with some nVidia graphic cards.

my units are really laggin along as i move them and the turns usually take a long time watching all the other civs move their units, especially in war time...i use the shift key to speed this up

I'm having 30-45 second delays at times between turns, and my units hesitate a bit. Of course, I'm in bit of a unique situation processor wise, so we'll just stay out of that mess ;)

It's bearable. When I get my hands on the Mac edition, I'm sure it will fly :D In the meantime, plenty of time for between turn pushups :p

here is a tip turn off unit animations except for battles and turn of show friendly moves and unit sound effects and if you want the music, on my 450 k6 64 meg ram and a tnt2-m64 it runs quiet smoothly, and really it is the gameplay we are interested in anyway

dmlow, I have a PII-450 with 256 M of RAM and the game takes about 25 (twenty five) minutes per turn in 1500 A.D. when playing with 16 civs on a huge map. It's nonsense. Playing with 8 civs on a normal map is bearable.

As for the laggines of movement of the units -- many people suggested DOWNgrading the video drivers if playing on an NVIDIA video card (yeah, REVERTING to older ones). I did this and that helped improve things a little. A little of laggines and slow scrolling rate is still there though.

i use the shift key to speed this up
almost every review i've read mentions the slow down (especially as the game progresses) and whether it can be tweaked in a patch is questionalbe. the above quote is the answer (for now), it really does speed it up.

The shift key just disables animations which you can do in the options anyway..

now if only there was a way to not watch any enemy movements at all.. having to watch 20+ Cavalry units move there FULL movment each and every single turn really sucks...

It might have something to do with the number of AI civs. Early in the game the turns would pass rather quickly. Late in the game on a hudge map with 16 civs an AI turn could take close to two minutes. Maybe there will be a patch to fix the slow calc time for hudge maps. This is the only time I have seen the slow down. Stopping the unit animations does speed it up.

didn't civ2 have an option that said "Show enemy moves"?? i'm not sure but they should put this option in so we don't have to watch everyone pass through.
