Is Civilization 6 Anniversary Edition worth it?

I purchased the Civ VI anniversary edition but since it didn't arrive on launch day I'm considering returning it and just buying the game on steam.

I realize it's pretty subjective, but did anyone else buy the anniversary edition and would care to comment on the quality of the included book and coins etc?

Personnaly, the quality of the coin could be better. They just punch a outline in the coin and not an actually shape, making them a bit ugly sadly...they are not worth 20$ more (i'm in canada and the collector cost 129$ instead of 104$)

How is the hardcover book? Is the soundtrack a CD or is it a code to download? I really was not interested in the coins but am in the soundtrack and book. Thanks

I think most people are still waiting for their anniversary editions to arrive by mail so we might be forced to wait a little bit before we get more feedback. I'd be interested to hear about the quality too (because I'm one of those poor saps who's going to have to wait for their anniversary edition for quite some time).

According to the best buy website they had some in stock... so I put in my order but didnt cancel my amazon yet because I won't believe it until I actually see it at best buy tonight after work.

I did the exact same thing. There was seemingly a copy in stock at a Best Buy fairly near where I live. However, I haven't received a confirmation yet that they actually have it in stock and ready for pick-up and that email should be sent fairly soon after you place the order. But I'm still waiting. So I'm expecting that these stores actually don't have it either...

For this price it could be a lot better for sure. The quality of the coins is not very good. They are made of poor quality material. The artbook is small format. There is not much text. There are more art pictures. The box is pretty standard. The best thing is the cloth map, but this can be found in a standard box edition, so... it could be a lot better.

Mine just arrived and I agree, the quality is poor at best and to add insult to injury, no cloth map. I've been playing Civ for 25 years so I was pretty hyped to have something to remember the years with. This isn't it...

Cloth map? What cloth map? Is that a Europe only thing?

To answer the OP, no it's not worth it. It's just more junk you'll never use and never look at and will clutter up your attic. The only reason I impulse-bought it (best buy on the way home had it and I wish they hadn't) is that I've played every one of these starting in 1992 and there's a lot of nostalgia built in. If you're a sap and a sucker like me, then you probably want to get it, but from any sort of objective metric, it is not worth spending nearly $100 on a computer game.

I preordered the anniversary edition but amazon canceled the order since they are out of stock. I then bought the standard pre-order edition ...

Can you give details on the book in the anniversary edition? Is it useful, beautiful (art), interesting? Can it be compared with the Civ 5 special edition book?

I didn't get a cloth map either :( I was actually looking forward to that! lol

Civ 5 special edition better imo. I think overall its not worth it, I only got it b/c it was like 7 bucks more (after the amazon discount) then the digital deluxe version (for the DLC) so I was like why the hell not.

Yeah it really isn't that impressive.
The Anniversary Edition is 20 dollars more than the Digital Deluxe version. Are the extras you get worth that amount?
Probably not.

The coins are kinda cute but nothing special. I was suprised to see they only had Civ 5 artwork on them. Some people might be disappointed by that, since each coin supposedly represents one of the games.

The artbook in Civ 5's LE was really cool IMO. This new one can't compare. It covers all 6 games, rather than just Civ VI. For the older games there's some screenshots with a small description, and for the most recent games there's the standard artwork and sketches we've all seen already. Nothing new or interesting here. Disappointing. Very small, too.

I did get the cloth map (I'm in EU) but haven't opened it yet. Seems okay. Might just be the best thing about the LE.

If you missed out, I wouldn't worry about it too much. I would've preferred to pay a bit more and get a nice statue or something, but what can you do.

I can't justify it. trying to cut back on junky knick knacks I buy and I already spent $$$ on digital deluxe.

Would have been nice for 2K to offer an 'upgrade' package through steam for $30 for the artbook and coins. I might consider it. But not spending big bucks to rebuy the game again

I thought the coins were nice and the map was OK but nothing to write home about. I was mainly excited about the art book but upon opening my box I found all the pages of it were stuck together into one solid block. Trying to carefully separate what I could only tore the fused parts. Really unimpressed with my purchase.

Compared to previous collector's editions of the Civ franchise this one was by far and away the poorest quality in a collector's edition I have ever seen.

Not that special, but as it was a gift and not my own money I can't complain. It's nice to have something commemorative what with my long history of playing Civ but the extras felt a bit cheap and tacky. For diehard collectors or those with more money than sense only, would be my verdict.

get a replacement mate, Book is obviously damaged.
I liked the book, the Coins are meh but i didnt expect much there anways. the Anniversary edition was only 30$ AUS more expensive than the Standard Edition so i cant really complain about the price as the DLC will go close to covering the difference. The cloth map is amazing, going to use it as coffee table cloth inj my new place with my artbooks underneath :)

Off-topic, most Collectors are of questionable quality. Civ5 werent really much better, the petwer figurines were tiny and art book i feel is on the same level as Civ6. Total War collecters are the same, Tyhe Chess set was cool for Shogun 2 but it was really just a $19.95 Chess set :)

Blizzard ones are pretty good though that art book in Diablo 3 was huge :) but i am pretty sure that was all you got(plus digital soundtrack and extras

Any pictures of the cloth map? I'd be curious to see how that looks since the US edition doesn't include it.

I have to agree with others that the coins and the book aren't anything special. They're ok. I've never bought any special editions before and I've been playing since Civ1 when I was four years old, so I though it might be nice to have something commemorative. I got the edition at the same price as the digital deluxe so I can't really complain. Overall it's ok but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it unless you really want to have some Civ memorabilia. Unless the cloth map is really cool and you can get it, I'm really interested in some pictures of that...:crazyeye:

I ordered mine at Game Stop and was able to pick it up Thursday morning, As someone that has played Civ from the release day of Civ I that I got at Egg Head Paying the $95 after tax was worth it
