Just a question, CivV of course when it came out was awful, and it took several expansions to make it playable. Are they going to do the same with CiVVI or CVI or whatever?

It's not fun for players to buy a beta tested game and then look at it is a half assed finished product, that might become better later with more expense of our valuable cash. In the past of course the initial releases were very good CIV and before for example. Are we going to expect a good game or a post beta not so good game? It's a viable question. I doubt however it will be answered.

Ask again in October.

This thread is absurd for three reasons
1) Game comes in 4 months...
2) We barely know anything about it
3) Civ5 is in top steam games six years after its release

We know Ed Beach, which created the BNW expansion (considered by many as a considerable improvement over G&K and vanilla) is in charge of Civ VI.

We also know they have built everything from the ground up, that they have acknowledged some of the biggest problems of Civ V and that they are not stripping any features (besides the world congress) from the game.

I'm very optimistic.

Well instead of ditching everything they built with the previous Civ game, their actually carrying over features from Civ V Complete like: Religion, Trade routes, Tourism, archeology, just to name a few and their also revamping culture replacing a VC and the horrid global happiness system which was definitely the worst part of Civ V, and of course adding in new mechanics.

the main aspect for hope of a good release is that the previous features aren't removed for no reasone they did with Civ V.

Ed Beach was the guy behind GnK too.

Which is fine, cuz GnK was so good.

Civ 6 vanilla on release will be about as bad as Civ 5 vanilla on release... (could be better or worse, but not by much..they do have a whole lot of new features that will be poorly balanced/weird/buggy)

When Civ7 is announced, Civ6 will be a very good game (unless you object to a major concept like 1upt)
[basically the same as CivV]

Thanks for the response guys. I think we are all expecting something good but worried it might be not be. We shall see...

True I am not saying Civ is a bad game only on release it tends to be a little less than it is until CIV 7 comes out. It's a wise point though, we shall see.

Good points Civ V was a bit of a troubled release. My point is exactly that. :)

I take your point but I think it's the over all expectation that it wont be another CIV 5 that worries me. Overhaul with no overall.

I would say that it has great potential. It's 4 1/2 months out so it's way too early to pass judgement. So, wait and see.

While I am not wide-eyed idealist, I strongly disagree. For the simple reason, civ5 release shouldn't be viewed as "regular strategy game release", it was terrible and civ6 would have to try really hard to be as bad on release day :p
Civ5 on release had tons of bugs, technical problems, not working multiplayer, poor "mod support", almost completely and utterly dead AI (incapable of naval warfare and conquering city), almost completely nonexistant diplomacy (war everywhere), terrible lack of balance in every possible aspect, serious design flaws (10hp units with 1hp minimum damage) plus enormous "controversy" caused by large amount of players comparing it to civ4. It had problems on conceptual, technical, balance and meta level, and lack of many crucial features on top of that (religion).

Such level of failure is extraordinary (and I am fan of Paradox games so I know how modern strategy games often look on release :D ) and I don't think civ6 will reach it, seeing as it is directed by guy who actually managed to fix many civ5 problems by the time of BNW, with more of them being adressed in a new game.

On top of that we already know civ6 will have religion, tourism, ideology, archaeology, trade routes etc since the beginning, which is already guaranteed to be better than vanilla civ5 which had none of these (and was very shallow).

This is a bit like asking questions during a movie none of us has seen yet. You have seen and know just as much as we do... now wait and see for yourself. None of us has the answer.

It looks awesome to me! I love what I'm hearing about the new systems, love the agendas idea, and I think the art is beautiful. I'm very excited, personally!

Lets just say that for now they seem to have some understanding of the game and i like the little ive seen.

But its way too soon to tell how it will play out.

Oh and release will probably not be very good. Lets be realistic. Its in how they react to issues that matter the most through patches.

That said ed beach did a very good job with civ5 expansions in term of design. I have more reservations about fine balancing but thats alright because we can mod that once we get enough game experience.

If you think Civilization has a history of arriving playable you've forgotten about the launch of Civilization III.

All of this makes me very optimistic too.
However, we also know that Firaxis tends to publish games in a very unpolished state. While I have hope that Civ 6 will be a great game even without expansions, there's still a significant probability that it will blow until the third big patch around march/april 2017.

Even numbered civs are better:
based on this fact I have pre-order civ VI and have no fear - only trust in infallible logic.

True!
I'm expecting no big technical difficulties but very likely some balance issues and maybe performance-"potential" ;) . No big breakers and solvable withing a few weeks...

I preordered (I rarely do and thankfully didn't for CiV :p ) so I'm expecting to play the game in a stable and highly enjoyable state with the regular need to adapt to balance-patches in the first, hmmh, lets say 2 months.

I don't know but on my mind I'm always thinking: "It's the 25th anniversary of the Civilization franchise and it is still the Firaxis' flagship. And the team that saved CiV with their Add-Ons are making this. They couldn't possibly blow this!"

That's just a belief, though...
