Is it possible to play a Game of the Month saved game on Civ. II Gold 1.1 for Mac? I downloaded it but Civ. does not seem to be recognizing the .sav as anything it can open. Any hints?

Yes it is.I just can't remember right this sec. It'll come to me.Keep fiddling in the mean time.

Are you loading by clicking it or thru the game?

I've tryed clicking on the .sav and opening it through the game. Neither have worked yet. I've also tryed opening it with gold 1.0.

I use Civ II Gold for Mac and I manage to get it to work... I'm stumped. Try my attachment, it is the game, re-saved in Mac format.

thnx Narz :goodjob:

Ok, The Emperor Hannibal .sav worked. But when I download the .zip(which comes up on my computer as a .sav) I can click on it, and it opens up the civ application, but not the game. And when I try to load the game from the app, the file won't show up.

Manually change the .sav to .zip then run it thru stuffit, maczip etc ..whatever you have.

Zip is a compression format. It MUST be decompressed first.

Still no beans. When I downloaded the .zip it opened fine into a .sav but the .sav only opens to the civ main screen (where you can select to load a game, begin a new game, etc) not into the actual saved game.

I've no problem with .zip or .sav files on Mac (classic or MGE 1.1.1).
Sometimes, the file is not known by the finder, but either you configure your PC exchange control panel to affect .sav to Civ app, or, in the worse cases, you have to manualy change Type and Creator of the file with an utility as FileBuddy or Snitch.:)

I use Internet Explorer on Windows NT at work and Netscape on Mac OS8 at home. Typically I download the game at work and play it at home. This time the floppy disk I downloaded on went bad and gave me a read error at home. So for the first time I had to download directly at home and I ran into the problems mentioned in this thread.

The .sav would not even download. It would open
a new page with the word "CIVILIZE" in it.

The .zip downloaded but I could not do anything with it. Stuffit would not even list it as an option for expansion.

The resaved version posted by Narz in post #4 downloaded but my Civ2 could not open it claiming it is not a Civ2 save file. This one really surprised me. The exact error message is: "Failed to load game: file is not a saved game."

I used Control-Click and used the "Save this link as ..." option to download the .sav file. For the format choice I picked Source instead of Text. The file downloaded as a SimpleText document.

Next I used ResEdit and chnaged the type and creator of the SimpleText document to match those of my Civ2 saved games. This worked and Civ2 opened
the game.

I have been playing civ2 gotm on my Pismo without any problems at all. I download the zip file and use MacZip to unstuff it and it works.
