Hello,

I just reached your forums and asked myself, whether I should try multiplayer games...

My only poblem is to find out if playing Civ on the net costs money because I normally do not accept such deals...

Would be great, if you could answer this question, because I did not found it on the FAQs...

Nope, as long as you have an internet connection and Civ4, you're good to go.

I've got an Internet connection and Civ4 (without addons)

--> It's for free for me from my point

Is that right?

That's right, although you may not find many multiplayer games going on that are still "vanilla" (i.e. no Warlords or Beyond the Sword required).

The vanilla version? At this point your best bet might be looking for sub opportunities in ongoing games (see the subforums of this forum for threads asking for substitute players). I have virtually no experience with Gamespy, so can't help you there.

OK, thanks...

PS: Does anyone know, how the gameSpy-Account has to be handled, because Pitboss seems a bit slow...

Gamespy works good...

But it's slow and I experienced an crash -maybe it's because i use Win Vista...

Well your going to have a hard time finding lobby games with Vanilla civ4, virtually the entire MP community is now playing BTS. But generally there are two ways to find games. You can hook up with people for planned games via several fan sight forums. Or try getting a game in the lobby with what ever random players are around. But I would really suggest buying BTS, for $30 you will have a much better MP experience.

There are plenty of vanilla games on gamespy ongoing a lot of the time...though for pbem or pitboss they seem lacking.

I can imagine there won't be a lot of ladder players, Canuck, but there are plenty normal civ4 multiplayer games going on. It's just false what you say.

It's not false, compared to the BTS lobby there are few games of any kind in the Civ4 lobby, it was a relative statement. There are 2-3 times as many games in the BTS lobby as there are in the Civ4 lobby, that is a statement of fact.

Your original statement suggests that there are few to no games in civ4 vanilla lobby which is false. You also say "virtually all multiplayer community is playing BTS." another false statement. But hey why nitpick a biased statement towards vanilla, should just take that at face value.

Well I would again disagree, and say that my statement is true, the Warlords lobby is so dead that you can hear your voice echo in it, and while there are some games happening in the Civ4 lobby the quantity is no were near that in the BTS lobby after just one week of BTS being on the shelf. So we can agree to disagree but my statements are observed facts not something I made up for my own benefit :-/

No it's not. You have to send $20 to my account, before you can register. (I accept all major Credit Cards, and Paypal). Hope this helps.
