I may have used pali on occasion, that was because I didn't know how to write Palestinian (and before I had a spell checker ;)).

who does Hajji refer to?

Muslims, it's the pilgrimage to Mecca, it says a good thing when used by muslims.

who does Hajji refer to?

Hajji is a blanket offensve term used generally by American soldiers in the middle east to refer to Arabs. It's this Gulf War's "Camel Jockey" etc.

Hmmm.... its only ever going to remind me of Romanian footballers with a seemingly divine free kick taking ability

I don't think it is inherently racist, but the way it is used certainly suggest that it is.

No it's just a lazy contraction. It would have to be assosciated with an ethnic minority in a country really to be a slur and I don't think it's got the legs. Kike, Yid, Hebe, Red Sea pedestrian, . .. .. .. .. .. ., Spik, Wog, Paki, Wop etc all have the history: Pali does not I don't think. The blanked word is of course a word meaning black in certain European/stroke Africanse type languages.

So you can make fun of .......but not of ....?

I deny the existence of such words as "ethnic slurs". They are merely abbreviations of their full label.

Hajji is actually an honorific bestowed to muslims who have completed the pilgrimage to Mecca. They're allowed to add it to their names, I think.

And I don't think Pali is an ethnic slur.

If we are going to ban people for using pali we need to ban those who use brits too.

And those who use the word cats too. As a catalan I find it pretty offensive.

Regarding the Paki/Pakistan and Palestine... I believe the Romans named that region after the Philistines, so I don't think it the "stine" is the same as "stan." Good luck calling residents of Palestine "Philistines" though...

Even the Lesbians are calling that derogatory these days, because of the lesbians? It's PC gone mad!!!!

If we are going to ban people for using pali we need to ban those who use brits too.

It's not really about the word itself, but how it is used. People say Brit without meaning to offend the British, but how often do you hear a person say a pali and then goes on to say something positive about Palestinians?

Edit: Actually it's Palestine. So if you call them Pales then you are in the all clear.

Sometimes I wish I lived somewhere with more overtly ignorant people. Just for the lulz. :rotfl:

I'm sorry the O-Zone band didn't translate more of their songs in English...

There was one in which one guy was saying something along the lines of:

"For you, I would become
Brazilian, South-African, Indian"
[...] (he goes on mentioning different nationalities)

And at some point he says:
"Afghanistan"

 Yes. Afghanistan, imagine a guy saying something like "I am an Italian, are you an Afghanistan?".

:rotfl:
