I beileve certain aspects of it are.

Mainly the feeling that humans cannot explain everything in the universe, and the fear some people have of what happens after death. So they appeal to a higher power and make up some pantheon/or cosmos based around a god.

Made lots of sense back in the ancient ages, but i dont find it very rational now to try to explain many things and certain unknowns with "god did it".

Other things about religion are irrational. Some dogmas and traditions of certain religions have nothing to do with the original teachings of the religion itself, and sometimes the people who changed the religious teachings made it so that this tradition is essential to salvation.

Thats the jist of it i beileve.

No... but then I don't think a person can be expected to be completely rational in all aspects of their life.

In context it is rational -- how someone sees the world defines their rationality. I don't feel right saying what someone believes is irrational, even if religion, to me, is irrational.

Is Xanikk rational enough to make an assessment of all the same tired old arguments against religion as futile?

What's the definition of rational? Which religion are you talking about?

If you define rational as "absolutely provable" then of course not. But then, nothing would be rational under such a criteria. If you define it as simply being reasonable, then I believe Christianity is reasonable, yes. The other religions to varying degrees, yes, but none to the extent Christianity is.

Well it hasnt been brought up recently, and i wager there really are no arguments against religion that havent been presented in OT.

Rational is in, is it rational to make up religious explanations for why things are the way they are.

If you dont know what i mean by that, look up rational in the dictionary.

Is this entire thread anything more than a troll? You don't believe in God. We get it.

Just because you find my argument offensive doesnt mean its trolling...

Some are. Some are not. Buddhism is quite rational. Scientology is incredibly irrational.

He doesn't find it offensive but just tiresome and silly and downright devoid of any intellectual simulation.

Here we go again :shake:. Religion (The core mainstreem ones like Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Shintoism, Pagan/Neo-Pagan Cults) are rational.

Well then could you attack the argument instead of calling me a troll.

His response was silly and without intellectual stimulation if you ask me.

The way I see it, religion isnt rational because it's putting all your faith into one thing which you can not be certaian of and flys in the face of the realities I see in this world.

I can't see religion as rational. It is the acceptance of abstract ideas that cannot be proven. It's even worse when these ideas are ancient explanations for something modern science can explain...

Talking to imaginary people and believing in after-life scenarios is nowhere near rational thinking. Nothing against faith, but it has nothing to do with rationality.

There's no substance to your "arguments" you just state the religion is dumb and irrational. Over and over.
