Is the Altar of the Luonnotar worth it?

Yeah I think hell spread stops at the consecrated altar level?

That's a great idea and makes sense, Toryn, but I don't think it is the case.

In my experience, once Hyborem has appeared nothing stops the spread of that goo. You can slow it down with Sanctify, but it will just keep coming back. For that reason, I tend to like to play Good civs to avoid having to deal with it at least in my borders. You still get the annoying fires though.

Personally, I think the game/mod should have some sort of Wonder, Event or something (like Killing Hyborem) that stops totally the spread of hell terrain. For now, I don't think the Altars have an impact on that.

In my recent multi player game, we were both neutral and the Hell terrain was ot spreading inside our borders. I'm not sure if this was related to the Altar or not.

You can always purge the Ashen Veil from Erebus and reduce the AC to below the cutoff for spreading to non-AV lands (25, was it?). Then Sanctify every tile in the world, just to be safe. Simple enough, no? ;)

The AC needs to be pretty high before Hell spreads into Neutral lands.

AC was up around 70...no spread in our lands.

I kind of wish the AC constantly went up whether the ais did that stuff or not... really, right now the AC is only ever going above 20 in my games if the Sheaim are there, otherwise nobody puffs it up.

I haven't toyed with smaller maps much yet, but maybe if you pop up to a Huge map you'll see more AC action? Just for the raw number of cities being destroyed (largely Barbarian size 1 early on), and additionally for number of Civs destroyed (that one is a HUGE boost to AC as I recall).

I generally play on Large and Huge.

barb cities get the ac to 15ish, and unless sheaim's about, the AC prettymuch doesnt move after that.

the "Last Days" option really should constantly increase the AC counter, not just double all ac changes.

Wierdness. Size of map/number of civs was the only thing I could think of. Every game I play winds up inexorably marching on toward Doomsday...

Good idea for a change to Last Days though. If it was a set increase rate (iedally just about what you could counter by chain-building the Elohim Ritual in a decent city), that would ensure that you CAN see full Armaggedon (unless you destroy the world first that is).

Still wish that the AC could go Negative, with resulting beneficial effects (like -50 and below, cannot declare wars, all current ones stop. -100 all civs enter permanent alliance, thus ending the game. Obviously getting it to max negative would be much harder than max positive though).

I agree. Again, it is a matter of perspective and whether you are playing a Good or an Evil civ.

I tend to stick with the former (although I am beginning to enjoy playing the Sheaim) and it seems like I am doing everything to bring down the counter without much effect. The size of the map does have something to do with it IMO. Also, if you use the Barbarian Lands option there will be more barb cities razed moving the counter up - especially as some of the cities can get to be a decent size and razing them boosts the counter more than 1 pt.

If you really want to raise the counter, I think the best way would be to build the Prophecy of Ragnarox and just start pumping out the units.

Again, in all of my games the counter hit 100 around mid-game (Epic).

How not to see Blight or anything past it:

Found Ashen Veil and sit on it. Bulb your savant and don't build any, nor temples of the veil.

Maybe, MAYBE, AV will spread to some nearby heathen cities and cause a few AC points to accumulate. Even that is preventable by spreading some other religion to such cities while flooring it for corruption.

Meanwhile if you let someone beat you to AV they will adopt it, spread it, go for infernal pact and summon hyborem, etc.
