Is The Simpsons getting stale?

I don't think South Park and The Simpsons are even anymore, I stopped caring about the simpsons when I turned 18. The last few seasons have been AWFUL. No story, no jokes that work, and totally unfeasible plots. The subversiveness is gone, as is the edge it once had. The absurdity it once had is now almost self-parody. the simpsons at this moment is the most overrated show ever. i mean, frank grimes was in an episode this season!

The fact is, south park is the new standard. this last season of south park is among the greatest seasons of any TV show. new season starts tomorrow, and they have a LOT to do to top that. Removing the Kenny character was the best thing they could have possibly done, will bringing him back work?

Thougts?

Every great show reaches high tide, I guess.

They will drag an idea through the doldrums before they give up on it, though.
Plenty more cash to milk out of the franchise, I'm afraid.

Well, I wish I could tell you, but they still have to air the last 6 seasons here. As with South Park, they're stuck somewhere in the middle of season two. I miss out on Futurama as well...

It went wrong when Fox bought a television station and stopped selling. In the meanwhile, contracts prohibited them to air new episodes, thus the station went bankrupt.

All they show are reruns from the second and third season... But yeah, of course it's difficult to come up with new ideas over and over again.

It seems odd to me that a show like the Simpsons have continued for so long. Funnier (in my taste) and at least original shows like Family Guy, Futurama (Thanks for reminding me Shabbaman) and Clerks the animated series, had a very short lifespan…
Still like the Simpson though ;)

Edit: Forgot Futurama

Maybe, but I still very much prefer the Simpsons over South Park...

Belive south park has looked into this subject themslef: episode: "simpsons did it" :)

When you create characters, if you cannot evolve them, you will run out of ideas eventually.

That is why I think Superman and co suck...You cannot really do anything new with them.

The Simpsons is the best written show on television. Of course, its lasted a lot longer than some of my other favorite TV shows like Futurama, and Family Guy ;)

Hopefully, Scrubs will last for awhile.

What the deuce is Scrubs anyway? Is it anything like the other shows?

The Simpsons reruns are much more viewable than the new episodes. Especially now that HBO is rerunning the Sopranos at 8 PM, watching new Simpsons episodes is not worth my time. I would say most of the new episodes are staler after 1 viewing than many of the older episodes have been after 5 or 6 viewings.

I still find the Simpsons very enjoyable, and in fact it's one of the few shows I watch on a regular basis. Yes, it's not as good as it was, but it's getting somewhat better (and that is completely relative). It seemed as though for several seasons the show was rudderless and sort of re-hashing through meandering plots. The writers may not have really known what to do - they had a great show, a great following, and assumed it would continue no matter what they did. Since it will last to Season 16 (thus becoming the longest running prime time show, IIRC), it will be cemented in tv history as one of the greatest shows of all time. It would certainly get my vote, if that mattered.

FWIW, I think the best season was season 8.

Scrubs started out being a genuinely funny show, but now it's becoming less funny. It's sort of a combination of ER and Ally McBeal, only it's funny.

Scrubs amused me for half a series, the style is already grating on me.

The Simpsons have indeed done every plot line about 10 times already.

Futurama is still good, but it lacks the originality that it had in series 1.

Family Guy is only on season 2 or 3 over here, but has to be the funniest cartoon I have ever watched. I am 100% serious about that, I have to go to the loo before it starts, just so I can't sh!t myself from the rolling and the laughing and the crying for it to stop.

I am sure it will become dull and monotonous (?sp) at some point soon, but hopefully not for at least another 3 or 4 series!

Simpson's is getting stale

Futurama is great as well as Family Guy

I loved the Critic why'd they have to dump that? :(

Though it seems Simpsons might be picking up again in quality the last few havn't been as bad, we'll see if the show can hang on. No show lasts forever!

I think Family Guy has been cancelled Anarres. A crying shame. Like you, I'd find myself in fits of uncontrollable laughter over a lot of things.

I never saw Futurama a whole lot but the Simpsons has been godawful for the last 4 or 5 seasons. I'd still prefer to watch reruns than original episodes. They just aren't funny anymore and often so ridiculous it's an embarresment to their predeccessors.

Scrubs is a top show, as is Malcom In The Middle.

I love and always have loved The Simpsons. On jumptheshark.com, a site where people vote for when TV shows became not-so-good, The Simpsons is the top vote for "never jumped." I agree it has become less good than it was years ago, but it's still a lot better than most of the crap on TV. And yes it's obvious that they're running out ideas, but after so many years wouldn't you too? For example, back in the day it was "homer starts a strike to get Lisa braces." More recently it's "Marge gives a box of stuff to goodwill which leads to the family going skiing, where marge breaks her leg so lisa can make homer and bart think they have leprosy so flanders can send them to hawaii"

I never liked South Park or Futurama. South Park is about as immature as you can get, and is something howard stern fans might enjoy. Futurama has its moments ("wow... a million years") but I can't bring myself to watch it for some reason.
