Is the Statue of Zeus too powerful?

I've done this before.

It was an archipelago and I'd won the game just before the Middle Ages were over, so I reduced Science to zero and spent all my money on luxuries and taxed the rest.

On a huge map (playing on well after the victory screen) I had one Crusader in every city on the map - even though I didn't need any, of course, what with no opposition left, it just looked ultra-cool.

Once each city had a Crusader and a few spare for any new cities I might build, I decided to learn Steam Power :)

But in answer to your question, it must be just a question of simple math? Find out what the quickest anyone's ever got to Chivalry, subtract that from turns in the game and divide by 5?

SOZ seems over powered. When I have ivory within a dozen or so tiles of my start I know that I can win. When the AI gets ivory I almost always lose or the game's no fun.
(snip)
Is there a simple way of disabling SOZ in conquests? If there is, I might do the same with Knights Templar.

I'd say yes, it is. A cheap wonder producing units for free and very badass ones too! Way too overpowered, IMO. And the luck factor involved (ivory or not) only makes things worse.

To answer your question, i think you can just open the standard scenario file and turn off that feature. Better you back-up it first, in case you inadvertently screw it up.

i'm indifferent to an AI with the statue of zeus, as long as they aren't on my border. if they are, i've found that buying their luxuries for GPT keeps them content. and when they do eventually declare war thanks to their stack building up, it's free promotions for my knights/cavalry.

if they aren't on my border then i know that they'll be just that little bit better than AIs usually are when it comes to alliances and wars.

I'd be indifferent as well. It's still the same stupid AI, with some extra gallic sworsmen. You just kill it off. But it is overpowered in the hands of the human player.

Yes, but it's different with the Knight Templar.
You go into Aztec lands for an early Industrial war with Cavs... and they endlessly harass your SoD with those pesky crusaders...
So, you seize the city with the wonder, set up a defensive perimeter, say, "Ah-ha Monty, my turn now..."....

Then realise you've already got Steam Power:mad::mad::mad::aargh::aargh::aargh::aargh:

yeah what's with that tank thing...shouldn't be any problem for them to take on any ancient era unit but yet i've had the same thing happen. A damn 2 def spearmen taking out an 8 attack tank(or something along those lines not sure) but it is FRUSTRATING :deadhorse:
