I have not found a link or reference file to help me understand the science advisor screen. I don't understand the best way to advance to the next age. I also don't understand why some techs end with a stopping point icon. Lastly, why do some wonders have a red line through them on the tech tree?

Thats a big subject, many differant opinions. It all depends on what you need and your overall strat for the game. A small example would be, when entering the middle ages, if I need production and wealth then I will go all-out for democracy, and then do the rest, on the other hand if I'm warmongering, then I go all-out for Military tradition first.

Those techs are optional, ie in order to progress the next tech age, you must have researched every tech that DOESN'T have on of those icons.

Lastly, why do some wonders have a red line through them on the tech tree?

The bonus's won from wonders, such as extra momevent points for ships, are made obsolete when certain techs are researched. Example - If you have the Great Library, once Education has been researched you stop getting any techs from it.

Thank you, that helps me understand it better. I am just having trouble following the flow of the tech tree. I would think I was advancing to the next stage and then I wouldn't, it would become frustrating.
