Is there a single comment syntax for both .INI & .XML files?

I make some changes to the way BtS/AND2/MCP is working by default, but finding and preserving those changes every update is difficult, what i would like to know is, is there a single syntactical way to add a comment in those files where i've made any change(s)?

I could then just run a search for those files i modified and back them up and restore them. Is there a log file the Updater/Checker makes that would list files it could not update because of my set of exclusions?
