Ive just recently installed .NET 1.5 (or whatever version is compadible with CivAssist II) and I wonder how I can I just have windows go right to the desktop without going to the name selection screen (Since I am the only user on this computer). And yes my OS is Windows XP.

Thanks,

I don't know anything about this .NET thing but I'm guessing it doesn't allow you to use the "show desktop" button?

No, Its when you are directed to the welcome screen at the start, where you have to chose a user name. Unlike the pre-.NET install, I bypass the welcome screen and streight to the desktop.

If you are the only user than on the user selection screen it says your name and then guest, correct?

you can disable the guest acount from control panel>user accounts and that will take you directly to the desktop on startup.
It just lists my name and my name only. Also, in looking in the user accounts, I found there is a limited access user called "ASP.NET Machine A...".

Try start->run ->type gpedit.msc -> hit enter -> computer configuration --> administrative templates -> system -> logon -> Don't display the Getting Started welcome screen at logon

Might not work with your new thingy though, and i'm not even sure it's what you're after...

EDIT: I'm pretty sure that's not what you're after... oh well.

I got around it by using Powertoys for Windows XP, Tweak UI or something like that. It allows you to set an auto login. That could help you but I can't remember where I got it. A google search might turn something up.

Powertoys is available from microsoft.com

The set for 2003 works for XP as well.
