Is there any plan for a SGOTM for civ 4?

I played in one SGOTM for civ 3 and I liked it a lot. I know the admin are working very hard on GOTM and there is still a lot of work for them on it. Therefore, I really don't see how they could manage a SGOTM for civ 4 right now, but I am still curious about it.

If it is in their plan to have a SGOTM for civ 4, do you have any idea on when? I just want a ballpark number, like in 6 months or one year.

Probably some time after next patch comes out, depending on how well it works for people.. SGOTMs take some time to complete, so would be good to get most of the bugs fixed first.

Excuse my ignorance for a moment (many have already:confused: , so please join them...),

What exactly is an SGOTM? I'm very familiar with GOTM, but a bit confused on SGOTM.

thx!

It stands for Succession Game of the Month. A succession game is where a team of players all play the same game. It's called a succession game because there's only one leader at a time and then they pass the reign over to the next leader. For instance player A plays 10 turns, then player B plays the next 10 turns, and so on until the end of the roster, where it starts over again. Usually these games have some sort of rules (called variants) but sometimes you just play to win. Some popular variants are always war (must declare war on ever civ as soon as you meet them), one city challenge (can only have one city), and many others. The possible variants are virtually limitless and people can get really creative with them. For each turn set if it's your turn you have 24 hours to claim the file and another 24-48 hours to play your turns and post a description of all that transpired during your set.

To help out (plus I am also looking forward to an IV SGOTM):

That makes sense. Since a succession game should be played until the end with the same version, it would be annoying for people who wants to play both GOTM and SGOTM if they required different versions of the game.

Of course, I was hoping for an answer a bit more precise than "some time". Still, I am happy about the fact that it is in the plans. It is probably hopeful thinking from my part, but it sounds like it could less than the 6 months I was expecting. :)

As Gyathaar said, 'when the patch comes out'. As we can't be precise about the timing of that, we can't be precise about the timing of the SGOTM. :(

I would expect a patch in the next month or three though - hopefully on the 'sooner' end of that scale than the 'later'.

Terrific... thx for the responses.

The succession game looks very interesting indeed. Succession GOTM i suppose is a team version of GOTM... that too would be interesting.

I could see how this would be more complex to organize given the team aspect. I'll have to check this out once its available.

The depth of this game continues to amaze me... so many options within a game, and so many game derivatives...

If I were still in university and this game came out... well... i'd still be in university, i suppose ;)
