Is there any way to stop the tech advancements at a certain age?

Say, I wanted to recreate Roman expansion, could I lock the techs so they couldn't get past Classical/Medieval Era? Would I have to go into the files and manually change it each game?

I was looking for something like a Rise of Nations were you can set the game up so say you start in the Classical Era and end in the Industrial Era.

So How could I do this?

I assume you'd have to go into the civilization infos XML and bar every civ from learning every tech you want. Look at the last civ (barbarians) for a good example to cut and paste to every other civ. They are capped around astronomy and may have random earlier techs barred too, not sure. You'd probably want to leave future tech open, and change it's prerequisite to something still available in the game, so you could still have answers to the happy/health issues later on.

But i am but a lowly tinkerer with the XML, so maybe some other people would have some better ideas. Have you messed with the XML at all before, or would this be the first time?

-edit- never mind, looks like someone already got a better idea while i was typing.
