Is there any way to turn off Autosaves in MP?

Hi.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I did attempt a reasonably thorough search of the forums first and found nothing with this exact question.

I love Civ 5 and I play it mostly multiplayer with my friend on the other side of the world (turn-based = less worry about the bad ping!). We love that the latest patch "improved" multiplayer, but still... we suffer horrendously with slow turn ends, even in the first few turns of a new game. When we add a 3rd player it's almost unplayable.

We wonder if it might be partly caused by the game autosaving every single turn in MP - even if you disable autosaves in the options menu or change it to every 5 or 10 turns or something, the MP games still save every single turn.

Has anyone found a way to disable this? Or can anyone suggest ways to improve the speed of our turns ending? We both have reasonably good computers (I host on a quad core with 4 gigs of RAM) and in single player it's not an issue at all.

Thanks!

Sorry, I just realised I posted this in the bug reporting section. Although it's sort of a bug anyway, is it possible a mod would be able to move this to the general discussion as this is more of a question than a bug report?

Cheers.

That was true until the latest patch, during which they added the manual save functionality to MP games. I had hoped they would also allow the disabling of autosave too, but apparently not :/

Has anyone found any ways to increase the speed of ending turn in MP games? Note, these are MP games with AI players as well - not just humans. Maybe this is part of the problem.

My friend and I are having the same issues during MP games with AI players involved. We tried a large map after the patch and it became unplayable around turn 110 on 'quick' for game pace setting. Ridiculously long turn times. We were waiting more than we were playing

We tried saving and reloading the game. Made sure to cycle through all of our units to make sure there weren't any units with moves remaining (please wait bug). We even tried monitoring our cpu's and system ram in order to see if there were memory leaks in the program. All to no avail. Latency was a non issue according to the hud as well (15-20ms).

Since I was the host I tried adjusting the autosave feature to 0 but it didn't seem to change anything. Looking back maybe I should have changed it to a huge number like 100 to increase the intervals between autosaves.

We started another game with my friend as the host to see if maybe it was my computer that was the problem. (Intel i7, nvidia 295 gtx, 6 gb ram) but ran out of time before we could reach the same slow down point.

We're going to try running the game in DX9 next time on our desktops. If that doesn't work maybe try using our netbooks (2 m11x's) just to see if its a hardware issue. I noticed that the extreme turn wait times seem to be hit or miss on the forum posts.

If it's any consolation, changing the autosave to a large number (or any number) doesn't make any difference; MP games still autosave every turn.

I think we'll have to try it with a series of different sized maps & different numbers of AI players, from 0 to lots - see if we can find a correlation and work out what causes the long times.

Ais(cs,civs and barbs) and playing under DX11 slow down the game. I suggest to reduce number of cs(40-50%) and play with the most humans as possible and play windowed DX9.

If you don't bother you can play without barbs, but i think they are the least of a problem, and you also reduce UA's capacity of a couple of civs.
