Is this art...?

Believe it or not, I actually like the Blue-And-Red piece better than Curt's attempt in the genre.

This doesn't mean that Curt's is worse or better - it just proves the placenta effect. If you're told something is art, then it is.

placenta effect? I thought it was placebo effect? maybe i'm wrong though who knows... anyways...

I tend to agree with CurtSibling on this one.

I do not think minimalist/ post-abstract expressionism is a solid art form. That does not mean art MUST be realistic. I find works like those of Picasso or Van Gough to be amazing. However, I think minimalists push it way too far. If the only point of your art is to make people form their own conclusions about it without any influence in the art itself, then these paintings are no more art then literally everything and anything.

p.s......... I think this kid's art is amazing, although i'm sure it's more entertainment oriented.

Worry not, I know it is crap - that was the point of posting it!

But believe me, the other guy spent 50 seconds making his one too!

Are you going to fling me in gulag for my decadent views?

Also!
Do I care what art you like? Nope!
Why would I wish to change your tastes? No reason to!
Do you think I am concerned? Not so!

You're wrong on another point too. ;)
Many different artists operate in the comcs genre, you will find your
expressionist and minimalist styles there too, if you know what to look for.

Anyway, sure have it your way...Enjoy those blue and red lines.

Hey! We all could bash out some garish line images too -
And within 30 seconds, just to prove how easy it is to make such stuff.

It isn't true art, let me tell you.
But if it floats your boat, fine.

Sorry, if you got it that way. I just found your "I have this title" argument silly and irrelevant.

I didn't know there was expressionist and minimalist style in comic art, but I clearly stated that I don't anything about comic art and your earlier posts gave the impression of lack of these styles.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and it will always be so.

Most people will find their ability to appreciate art enhanced by taking a class on art history (or just reading about it on their own). Is this because the art in question has changed? Obviously not, it is because the perspective of the viewer has changed.

Similarly, the piece offered by Ellsworth Kelly needs to be put into its proper context. Other art done by other contemporary artists, other pieces done by Kelly, and all of the art that inspired those pieces.

Actually I found this quote by Curt quite insightful
In the same manner that a pilgrimage is not a walk across the street to a local temple-
Art is not a mere bucket of paint poured on a canvas...
but I would guess that I reach a different conclusion from the premise.

I definitly agree that art is in the eye of the beholder. For instance... anime, which TONS of sullen gothic teenagers LOVE... I think that this is not even close to being art in any way whatsoever. I do, however, think that something like rap music wil be looked upon as art by future generations. Not because it is artistsic in the normal sense of the world, but more because of the social commentary rap music makes.
