I started alone on a souther island so it took me about 30 turns to establish contact with anyone and 50 atleast to contact everyone on my continent by the time I did everyone was ahead in tech. I decided to war for techs and it was going well I took half of russia but she didnt have many techs, i made peace and decided to attack portugal. Due to a military alliance agianst russia I had ROP with both the mongols and ottomons now both have worn out and I have no way of reaching portugal. IDeas anyone?

Well I think I would start by straighten out my cities. Then capture that city you are sieging now. Make peace for invention and all his gold. Abandon the city. Set up to get out of despotism asap.
Many cities are not growing and could with a harbor.
St Pete move pop from lake to irrigated plains to gain a shield.
Utica making troops and no barracks, maybe a market here.
Leptis making a cath at size 2? Needs an aqua, move pop from hill to coast to start growing.
Leptus Minor making a colosseum at size 3 and not growing. Actually no colosseums need be built ever or not till size 14 or so.
And so it goes. You must get out of despotism at the earliest opportunity in any game, with so few exceptions as to be ignored.
Get those troops back to the beachhead and then go for the Mongols as they are close to you. I am guessing you have used your GA with your UU. I am not fond of a despotic GA, unless at least at deity, better just at sid.
One way to avoid it is to not make your UU, so it will not trigger one. At the highest level the wonder triggers are not an issue, but at lower level you have to take care to aviod that.

There are enough units to take that city (guim...), just barely. But Henry is not inclined to give up much, just some cash and Invention,which was only two turns away. Better than nothing and I would take it and abandon the city. Hope he boots you home to save time.

I took the city with only one loss? That is how I know what peace deal could be made.
Did you select the elite vets first? I think I lost eother the second or first battle I forget. I presume that you have RNG preserved? If so I did not attack that wounded archer first, in fact I did not attack him at all, which I would normally before peace talks.

Ok I just loaded it and it went down the same way and I lost the second MI an dcaptured with the last unit a reg MI. Sold off all structures and then killer the Long Bow and then peace.
