Is it possible to play a game on a space map, with spaceships and planets, and then being able to scroll into a planet to control cities/units from there? So then a player could concour the galaxy, planet by planet, with space and land battles? I'm asking for both the Star Wars and 40K mods. Thanks in advance.

There is no built in mechanic for this, but it might be possible. I know it would take ALOT of SDK changes.

I am not sure if tihs is even doable - and even if - such map-in-map design would be a horror in terms of memory usage (even assuming "planetary" sub-maps quite smallish).

And then someone would have to code the AI :crazyeye:

I think both WH40K and Star Wars mods would be better off focusing on one aspect (Probably land for WH and space for SW) and utilizing mechnics that are already there to make fun gameplay (Or make something playable in the firs place :mischief:)...
Rather than shooting for some colossal - and most probably un-acheveable- goals....

Well, both planetary maps and the galactic map would be very small, and there would be only a few planets (like making planets 1/4 of the size of a duel map, and 4-3 planets in a duel sized galaxy, as to not overdo the memory). As well we could make some pre-made planets if it would help.

Yeah, that might be a problem.

Just one aspect is half of the universe. In order to make something truely Star Wars, we need jedi and vulture droids, stormtroopers and Death Stars. It's just not enough without both.

Actually we are starting small otherwise and the SW mod won't even need to figure out how to do space for the first release (invasion of naboo).

The only thing I can think of is using huge maps, having small islands and exchange water with space and ships with space ships.... then you can still invade other planets. with a right mapscript it could even look good ;)

This reminds me of Sins of Solar Empire. Same kind of thing...Civilization+StarWars in a way.

That game rocked hardcore. One of my all time favs. That would be a good example of large to small maps all worked together. Go from galactic to planetary in nothing more then a mouse wheel roll.

Yeah, that was done in the old SW mod, but it looked horrible and played badly. If this isn't possible I guess we'll have to do that.
Perhaps it would be better to use different scenarios instead of one overreaching mod?
Wouldn't it be cool if you could start, grow and conquer with one big interstellar empire? You just can't get that feel with small scenarios.

I've never played Sins: mind explaining it a bit?
