The game only really comes alive during times of war, I find it so hard to get excitied about some far flung corner of my empire opening a new bank. Wow! Bet those long winter nights will just simply fly by now that you have a bank AND a marketplace guys. How about a few large peace time projects to build that actually have some effect on the landscape of the game. Not just a wonder without even a nice pop up. I would love to see the occasional wonder built outside city limits, standing in the open to be bombed, blasted and squabbled over. Can you honestly imagine the pyramids in a modern urban town centre just next to your brand new bank and marketplace? And while we're at it why can't I for instance build a tunnel or road bridge to those string of puny islands that are just one tile from my coast? Could I build a tunnel through the mountains? Why, when I can irrigate every square inch of territory, can't I dig a ten tile long canal to avoid my ships having to make a four hundred year round trip to make it to the other side of my empire?

What you don't like banks?? You don't like the money it gives you?? Or after building 5 the ability to make Wall Street and get LOTS of gpt?

I understand about the waring part though. You could probably guess who i attack with and what era (avatar) but i love cavalry and that part of the game is greatest. I believe there was a post a little while back on how there is always a lull in the game when your not waring and it is in the late ancient early middle ages when you don't feel like attacking invincible pikemen and very formidable spearmen. Tanks though, time for all that hard work of starting the game and playing through it. Goodbye neighbor!!

I also agree with the crapiness (if that's a word ;)) of boats. Once you get rails on a pangaea your set. Or if on continents or archipeligo's just plant boats on two or four sides of your island and use your rails to the fullest.

I'm never able to stay at peace. Doesn't matter how nice I am, somebody delcares war on me eventually. Not that I don't mind though, I'm ready for them (usually).

However, if a long period of time does go without war (happens sometimes), I do start one. Those half a dozen stacks of units just start itchin to see some action. :)

i hate peace. to...........peaceful.
good point bout brigdes and canals. i think we should be able to alter parts of the landscape. it would be fun bombing a brigde when they have tanks on there. lol

You can't spend too much time in war. After a war, you have to spend time rebuilding, then preparing for war, then a war, then rebuilding, etc. Thats what I usually do.

I don't mind war when I'm prepared and ready for it, but generally I get bored with it pretty quickly. I enjoy the periods of prosperity after war, when I can clean up my empire, get my newly-conquered cities to work, and crank on science.

I find the game most enjoyable when I'm able to balance a casual war while building infrastructure. I try to have a war going at all times. I think on emperor it's in your best interest to stay at war with someone(hopefully having allies), while getting others to fight too. I love the game inside the game of pounding great leaders out of other civs. That is part of every one of my games(OK, now I'm gonna fight until I get a GL for my Forb. Pal.). I find myself ending games early because of extended peace times where its just next turn...change building project...next turn.

Bret... you must hate SimCity :)

I did! The boredom of having to build an entire sewer network is alliviated only by turning on all the disasters and planning how to deal with an aircraft crashing into a dinosaur with smallpox in the middle of a tornado brought about by flooding.

I fully agree: war makes the game! Though I do like improving my cities as well, long periods of peace really DO get boring!:o
So I'm always either in war or planning/preparing for the next war.
