interesting city placement you chose there. I debated the spot you put Sixxa (I think? Can't read the city name) for quite a while myself. I couldn't bring myself to plant the city on the wines, although now that I think about it, wines really aren't that great of a special tile (as compared to say, iron mines).

You also moved Carthage? I don't think any of the other players did that. Why did you choose to move Carthage? Leptis looks like it'll be a huge commerce city but was it worth taking away good tiles for your capital?

I also moved Carthage, because of the same reasons as Lilnev (to keep the hill for later, to boost production), but I moved one tile north, west of the river so I could build two riverside cottages (later) and settle in 4000 BC

It doesn´t matter when you are doing first warfare (with cav (like me) with rifles (like multi) or even still later with inf (as proposed by lilnev)) as long as your first war is against Monty and it is finished around Monday

Post lib summary:

Up to liberalism, 6 players have joined the game. Except of Giaur (who missed it by 1 turns) all managed to win the lib race (only cities bigger then size 10 are mentioned):

Giaur:
Lib is missed in 1170 AD, CE with 20 cottages. Research is at 100 %, (but making losses of 21 gold per turn) with 361 beakers, 7 cities are build, 3 cities are size 10 and one is size 11 and all 6 neighbours are met

Multineer:
Lib is researched in 1150 AD, constitution as freebee and running hybrid economy with 11 cottages (9 near capital). Research is at 70% with 243 beakers (but actually in a golden age), 8 cities are build, 1 city size 18, no neighbours met

Dirk:
Lib will be researched in 1030 AD, very likely astro as freebee and running a CE with 23 cottages. Research is at 60% with 172 beakers, 6 cities are build, one city size 14 and one city size 10 and one neighbour is met

Shyuhe:
Lib will be researched in 1250 AD, very likely nationalism as freebee and running a CE with 18 cottages, Research is at 70% with 223 beakers, 8 cities are build, one city size 15, all neighbours met, currently at war with Rosevelt

Lilnev:
Lib is reached in 1160 AD, nationalism as freebee and running a CE with 11 cottages, more are on the way. Research is at 70 % with 241 beakers, 8 cities are build, 3 cities are size 11 and two neighbours are met (if I got it right)

Snaaty (me):
Lib will be researched in 1200 AD, astro as freebee and running a FE with only 4 cottages (2 for capital, 2 for first city build). Research is at 70% with 243 beakers, 9 cities are build, no big cities (biggest is capital with size 8), 3 neighbours met.

Fazit:

Dirk is by far the first one to reach lib in 1030 AD. Also his research was very efficient, because he has already all prereqs in to pick astro as freebee.

Although Giaur missed the lib race (could it be that you traded out education too early???) he has by far the most impressive research rate at 361 beakers at around 1200 AD (about 120 beakers more then Multineer, Shyuhe, Lilnev and me)

All others (Multineer, Shyuhe, Lilnev and me) are more or less equal in actual beakers and in reaching lib at around 1200 AD. Multineer and me are a little bit more advanced then Shyuhe and Lilnev, because we both have already self researched nationalism

Next will be the war against Monty. It will be again divided in two parts:

Fist part:
Warfare preps up to one turn before declaring

Second part:
When the war is over (and hopefully won)

This round will close on Monday. Please submit both saves, even if you should play in one go

Nice round up Snaaty. I don't think i take astro as freebee. It cancels Collossus and i haven't met the big continent yet. I'll probably take Nationalism and go for globe/nationhood asap.

I think i can win the race to economics and use the GM for upgrade of some of my HR warriors. I changed my mind about attacking with cav, it will be gren/cannons supported by drafted muskets/rifles.

Yeah I´m using it (at least I think so). I downloaded a huge patch from the link in this forum first thing whe I installed warlords... ...where can I see if the patch is in use (perhaps it didn´t work properly)???

On the other side:

There is a lot of war going on in my game. I bribed Cyrus against Ragnar quite early. With Monty I didn´t trade at all to keep him down.

In general, I don´t trade much with the AI´s , when there aren´t good deals for me involved (what slows them down even further)

Like Snaaty said, I wanted the hill for production and coastal for the GLH (plus Harbor for health, and eventually good overseas trade routes). In general I packed my cities in to try to use as many of the land tiles as I could. Even if there's a lot of overlap, they'll be fine up to size 8 or 10. What I don't have is a really good GP farm, or good production cities. That's why I think drafting/upgrading to infantry might be appropriate (though I'll see how backwards Monty is. If rifles/cannons look to be sufficient I may just go for it then).

Mostly, but it's more like 40 cottages, over half of which are grown to villages or towns. No farms except the Corn. My CE is unadulterated.

I also thought about that (race to economics and use the GM) in my game, then voted for the direct Dem. route (to secure the SoL) because I already had researched nationalism before lib and I was afread of loosing the economics race (I had lib. almost 200 years after you)

I started my war ASAP in 1470 AD:

But before that, I demanded a tribute of Monty: 120 GP, (=all his money, which he gladly paid)

Then I had to find out in 1480 AD, that Monty managed to block with his only caravel the city I wanted to launch my trade mission in (but now I already was in this war). So I had to redirect my trade mission and went to a smaller city

The war goes more or less like planned, I make only one small mistake and Monty manages to recapture the second city I have taken from him... ...all buildings are destroyed (argh) when I recapture it

1530 AD: Monty’s capital falls without any losses.

P.S. I never thought that I will ever adopt Universal Suffrage (but Monty cottaged parts of his country too).

P.P.S. Beakers were high, cause was producing Wealth and Research in my cities, just to win Lib race. And with that fact follows the next. You missed most important thing Production. It's not less important than Research, while you can build wealth or research. Hammers convert to Beakers.

P.P.P.S. It would be difficult to compare cause my war started 20 turn after your war ended . So maybe draw some line. 1650AD or 1800AD. If someone has less cities, his loss.

Well, on part 2 finished Mounty 1740AD.
Toky help Mounty to survive mach longer.
My guest is that Toky was intend to attack Mounty, but when his huge stack of frigs/galey containing rifflrs/greens/knight and trebs come, I was own city. So, he just declare on me!
took darn city and I was forced to take it back later.
Finally took Mounty last city.
I just got Assembly line and researching biology.

I already have a great idea for the next game (immortal or emperor):

After Monty will be the first AI to be beaten upon by all of us in this game (hm, maybe even in all games he is in), I could imagine a game with Monty as starting neighbour and a special "Monty is my best buddy" rule (no negative modifiers with Monty allowed, no war with him and so on)

What does everybody think about this???

The big continent is just a jumble of mess. Brennus is loyal - there aren't any backstabbers on that continent! I miss Alex and Monty (in the right spot).

I took out Monty in about 1800. I stumbled because he got to rifling before I could kill him so I needed better troops. Ended up killing him with artillery. Now I have to figure out how to take down Cyrus He's turned into quite the monster and Brennus is afraid of his military might (and Toku too). *sigh*

edit: Snaaty ... maybe immortal is bad idea. I won Immortal only once in Warlords. This topic gave me much, but game with satisfying Monty would be to difficult.

I´m in more or less the same situation... ...I played up to 18something and Cyrus also turned in my game into the top dog (by far) on his conti... ...he first vassalized Ragnar, then Rosevelt... ...to make things worse, I made again a mistake and bribed Brennus to war with Toku some while ago and they have fallen back in tech since this war... ...so no help for me either
