Issues with larger map sizes

There's a shortcut to customassets in your BtS directory. You can look in there or if you're sure you don't want to keep anything you might have put there you can delete everything in it and try again.

I only have 1 shortcut to customassets, which isn't in my BtS directory, it is in the base Civ4 directory. Also it doesn't lead to anything (refers to a missing directory)...

The shortcut in the civ 4 dir doesn't lead anywhere for me either but the one (I have) in the BtS dir does.

You should be able to find customassets in my documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword

...but if you don't know anything about it the chance that you got something in there is very small.

Cool I found it. Ur right though there is NOTHING in the subdirectories. I guess that means my problem isn't there.

It's so wierd... adding map sizes and changing existing ones just doesn't seem to work anymore. Ever since Vista....

Your custom assets folder is iirc how you override the core files, so if you put a custom archer model in it, the game uses it in preference to the stock ones opr ones called for by a mod, but if you have nothing in your custom assets folders then its not the problem.

Have you tried a vanila custom map in vanila BTS?, there are some in the scns downloads, or i can provide you with one, ie a huge map in stock BTS, if that runs, then its not Vista thats the problem, i dont run vista so dont know, but it seems less lickly that its the cause of your problems. When did you last wipe Civ and re install from scratch?, it could be that you madea change and forgot you did and that might not be helping.

Don't think I've made a game breaking change though I could try another reinstall (only recently reinstalled).

I have also tried running custom map sizes in vanilla civ... still doesn't work. Would it be possible to use the customassets folder instead to try and use my custom xmls? Would I just keep the same directory structure to do that?

Also how would I do that for FfH seeing as it is a mod? Do I make a mods folder in the customassets directory?

Thanks for the help guys

The ever frustrated Al :blush::)
