Italy.... Actually just a part of it...

The map does look very realistic. I would suggest maybe a touch more plains around Greece, and maybe some more hill too?
Thanks. Actually, that's exactly what I was going to do. There are many forests and hills, but I was going to move the hills to more accurate places, and replace parts of the forests with plains (and sometimes, grassland). This should also help that area have a style closer to the other parts of my map. Just that I'll do this after I finish Italy and the other remaining parts of the map.

I'd suggest using the 'retain culture on capture' scenario setting.
Yes, I was going to use the retain culture setting. :D (actually, if I ever get to make my scenario, I'm going to make it so that you can win by Domination, Conquest, Culture 20k, Culture 100k, and Histograph, thinking even about Diplomatic or VP, though VP might make it a bit too easy)

Something that just occurred to me - how about using one of the terrain types that you're not using here (say, desert) as a city site terrain to stop the infinate city sprawl? You could give it the same properties as plains, spread it around in the places that cities were really founded, and stop cities from being founded on other terrain. Just a thought.
That's actually a very, very good idea. Never thought about that myself. I'm so going to use this! Especially that I was unsure what to do with the "barbarian" lands, where at the time there was no real civilization in the time. Now I know, I'm going to set various obstacles (impassable terrain from most sides, barbarian camps, immobile enemy troops, etc), and only after you get through this you can bring your settler and "colonize" that beautiful area. :D But I'm not going to use this only for "barbarian" lands, this is a very good idea anyway.

I am worried about the size as well; the original map was already quite big (a lot of land) and Mirc's map has even more.

Yes, it's big, it's very big. It is 130x118 or something like that. And it doesn't sound so big, but this has far more land than a random map, it's far even from 60% ocean, it's something like 23% ocean.

Hoping to do an update tonight, if not, tomorrow. I put my hard disk on another computer, and I had the surprise that Civ3 doesn't work (not because it's too old, it's better than my computer), and the editor gives me tens of errors: "Could not locate Civ3: PTW"; "Could not locate Civ3: Conquests"; "Could not locate file: ntp.pcx"; "Could not locate file: waterfalls.pcx". :crazyeye: I'll try to put my old hard disk as master, maybe being a slave causes these problems, it worked perfectly this morning when on my computer.

I have used my map for games in the past, and they get quite slow due to the amount of cities, although my 512 mb ram must be the problem there...
You could however control the amount of cities by making some terrain impossible to settle upon ;)

:p :D :p

Pay attention Varwnos! Have you got me on your ignore list? ;)

On the size of the map, with these land maps it gets really processor and memory intensive. The map that I'm using for my Alexander scenario is a bit that way too, but I got round it by disabling AI settlers and pre-placing the cities. There are ways to avoid Infinite City Sprawl, important on a land map like this.

Italy is again creating me problems. I spent about 2 hours making the perfect line of mountains, and it really is very accurate, but it's extremely difficult to balance it with other terrain types. It's very accurate right now, but there are WAY too many mountains in Italy right now, it looks almost like it's as mountainous as the Alps. It is going to be very difficult to make the Apenins good, I hate those mountains! I made such a good line for them but I can't balance them! :( OK, still trying...

Could you try making most of the mountains into hills, just leaving a single mountain chain down the middle?

That's sort of what I'm trying to make. One problem is that it's very hard to make the mountain chain right above Rome, as it's pretty thick. :)

YEAH!!! I made it! :woohoo:

I'm not so far from finishing this!
Here's how my minimap looks so far:

And here it is explained (about what I still have to do):

♪ = Sicily. Haven't done anything on it so far.
♪ = Parts that I haven't really worked yet, or that still need some work.
♪ = The Balkans, from the original map, need to change them to fit the style. :)

BTW, don't mind the text at the left, it's just a joke.

That's all. :)

Edit: First image replaced. I made a better version. :smug: And I solved all the yellow things.

Here is a more complete version. I made Greece. :D I like how it looks, both zoomed out and zoomed in, but some people might argue it needs more mountains in Greece. I thought there are already enough hills, so I chose to post a preview this way.

What do you think, does it need more mountains in Greece? Other comments? Please...... I'm almost done with it!

Thanks. You are right, I didn't realize that, but the grassland area near Larissa was way too big. I made it about half of what it used to be. Does this look better? :)
