Italy should be in!

"Hello, I am Enver Hoxha, Chairman of the glorious and immortal Albanian peoples and defender of Marxist-Leninism across the globe!"

It'd be like Tokuwaga on steroids. :P

Yeah, I've never heard of that guy. Mussolini is at least very well known. Then again, the real contributions of Italy to the world are NOT found in its government (unless you count classical Rome). They epitomize the renaissance.

Besides the Bavarians might be offended that there with the HRE and Germany? (Bavarians don't consider themselves german)

Surely Bavaria would be great. At least it has a ~1500 year history, the culture of it is a synonym for german culture, the Oktoberfest of course, BMW and Audi and we are the smartest in the whole Republic :goodjob:
But i wouldn't say that Bavarians don't consider themselves german. That's not true. We consider ourselves on the first place bavarian, on the second as one of the bavarian tribes and then on the 3rd place as german :)

When you think of notable Albanian leaders, you think of Gjergj Kastrioti. (Or if you are more of the modern and controversial type, Enver Hoxha)

When you think of notable Italian leaders, you think Benito Mussolini.

Italy loses.

I'd want Albania to be in just to see the reactions of people.

When I think of Albania, I get nothing in my head. I've read the wikipedia and there is nothing that catches my interest. There are many eras of foreign rule and influence (Ottoman, Byzantine, Greek, Roman, Soviet, German. I mean wow. That's more than Poland) and it's known for little today but being a poor country on the Balkan peninsula.

When I think of notable Italian leaders, I think Garibaldi or Giangaleazzo Visconti if you want a medieval leader.

I'm sure Albania didn't have this much land :D:

Maybe we should ask to those who wait in the crossroads to clean our windscreen...

in reply to all people that says 'mussolini [insert insult here]': hey, do you expect that someone write about you in a forum post in the 2050s? remember: the ethics of a leader can't be evalued from the people's point of view

Well, I can't be bothered reading this thread. I have no time so my quick two sense. No Italy. Basically they are a cut down Germany without the military success or the good sportsmanship.

Also, Grosso; try the Olympics mate!

In the World Cup, the Azzurri gave the Socceroos a memorable lesson. I have scant sympathy for the Socceroos: they still haven't learnt how to lose.

Given their historical achievements, Italy or Venice or whatever are more deserving to be in the game than Aussi.

okay... so apparently we're starting to see two Italies here:

Italy #1: Reinessance Itlay, the Italy that gave us Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Vivaldi, etc. etc. etc., and also all those squabbling city states, the house of Medici, a flourishing of arts and culture, humanism, Sistine Chapel, etc. etc. etc.

Italy #2: The Modern Italy, the Italy that people would associate with Mussolini.

Aye, put Italy in! Put Russia and the Soviet Union too. And the HRE. Put the EU in next. Then add each single state of America.
Huns? Who were the huns, we watch Europeans and Americans on teh news, no huns ever existed in history!

Italy #2: The Modern Italy, the Italy that people would associate with Mussolini.

Yeah. And people normally associate modern Germany with Hitler and modern Spain with Franco... What's next? Will I have to revamp my Latin skills?

and ancient Italy, Rome.

^oh, right... forgot that one. :D

Roman Italy is not ancient Italy, it's classical Italy. Ancient Italy = Etruscans, and possibly Greece (Great Greece).

And what about:

Dark Ages Italy: Kingdoms of the Goths, Lombards, and finally the HRE.

Industrial-Age Italy (Pre-modern, post Renaissance): Neapolitans.

So we have a total of 9 possible candidates, maybe more. :p

fine, if you want me to fix that...

Italy #2: Pre-Cold War Modern Italy. first thought in mind: either Mussolini or (if you have read any history) Garibaldi

Italy #3: Modern Italy.

If Albania is better than Italy, why are so many Albanians "loving" Italy so much to do a mass migration here?
Economic collapse and unrest in the early-to-late 1990s.

Don't take my addition of Albania in Civ seriously. Besides that, Albanians are manly and have the greatest names on earth. :P
