It's been fun... (Matrix: Please read!)

My vote is #2.

I suggest we start the new system from gotm (or better got2m) number VI.

I'd like to add another suggestion - though it's more of a merger between two already out there.

Why not combine the ideas of Game-of-the-Quarter with the Game-of-the-Two-Months? In July (for example) offer 2 games. The faster players could play game 1 and game 2 and could pick the best one (rather than adding scores). The others could choose 1 to play and take the two months to do so.

This would give the faster players the advantage of picking between two, but it is fewer than the three one would have in a GOTQ. I would also think that most players could get through a game in 2 months and would not need three.

Don't mean to confuse the issue, but this may be a nice compromise.

Kev's compromise sounds like mine above except that it's 2 games in 2 months rather than 3 in 3. So I'm for it either way.

I think it also solves Leowind's choice problem with less of a potential hit to his global ranking.

But do you really think there are people who absolutely wants to play more then 6 games a year? Perhaps, but to my opinion it's less important than the fact that it makes the system too complex, for everyone.

Well Matrix - I would LIKE to play one game every month - but I don't absolutely have too!!!

And since I think that you have been doing such a good job handling the GotM my vote is for what ever solution you think is better.........

Thanks for your cooperativity, shadowdale. But may I point out that even you said that you won't have enough time to finish this GOTM; at least, not in a way that makes a high score as you normally do.

To clarify myself again: my vote for one game in two months comes from a few things:

 1. I don't want the ranking to be based upon the number of hours people are willing to spend on the GOTM.
 2. I absolutely do not want two indepentent GOTM's!
 3. It's actually not possible to combine a Game of the Month and a Game of two Month's. You can't compare two games and you also can't have two people who will have a normalized score of 100. Then, who is the winner?

Seems consensus *on this thread* seems to be leaning towards one game every two months for everybody. Only about a quarter of folks who've played GOTM have even responded to this thread, however, and not all of them even after Matrix's request for a vote. I wonder if some sort of blanket PM requesting feedback would be in order? Or would that be overkill? I would hate to implement a change that a handful of us have agreed upon only to find that many others don't like it but missed the discussion. Maybe Matrix could start a new thread with a better title instead of PMs?

Since this is a vote,I say leave it as is.

If you can't finish in a month then thats fine. Its just a fun thing. No one will be shot for not finishing.
If the global ranking is important to you, then you had better make time.

Perhaps I should ask Thunderfall if he could make a poll about this. Would that be better? I really think it's important.

Not entirely true. The problem is - and this is my own experience - that there are people who can't end a game within a month. I've started both GOTM II and III, but didn't finish either of them. I wish I could have ended one of them (that is, end it and make it count).

Not that anybody cares (Matrix: Why not?), but I agree with Smash. Leave it as it is.

For general information.

Time to resurrect this thread so us newer players can have a look at it. This relates to the discussion of the "cap" issue, and the "lack of time" questions that have been cited by a few people for using a cap.

Why don't we have alternating GOTMs between Civ II and Civ III.
This way, if people have enough time to play civ II and civ III they will probably be able to finish one a month. If they want to just do one of the GOTMs they would have a choice and plenty of time. Ill try to explain because I believe that this can solve all of our problems.

We set up 2 global rankings and 2 Hall of Fames(one for civ II and one for civ III)

We have a GOTM on every even month for civ II.

We have a GOTM on every odd month for civ III or vice-versa.

This allows for more liesure play or rapid play for people who wish to play both. Please consider this Matrix.
