It's not a bug but...

If the TOA did not go obsolete it would be "The Wonder". This was tried for about one week during beta testing and was quickly removed as extremely unbalancing.

My two cents: stop moaning, and if you're going to build the ToA, have a strategy. Avoid Education for as long as you can. Prebuild temples for when you get Education. No one has mentioned the fact that a large-ish, developed town with lots of improved terrain (which you should have by the time you get Education, right?) will produce a temple much faster than a new town in the ancient age that should be concentrating on popping out workers, settlers and military.

Don't forget, any small advantage in the ancient age translates into a BIG advantage later in the game. ToA gives you quite a big accelerator factor in the early game if you get it. My only problem with ToA is that on higher levels it is almost impossible to build because the AI loves it so much.

And finally, if you disagree with everything I just said: it's an OPTION. You don't HAVE to build it if you don't like it :-)

The ToA is more of a tool to give your cities that early needed boost. Very good wonder for warmongers capturing cities.

You definatley cannot take away the expiration on this wonder, although, I do think it needs 'something'.

The great wall, now there is a wonder that should never expire...maybe collossus too.

I think all wonders should eventually expire. The change from Civ 2 to Civ 3 that made Sun Tsu's War Academy last forever (it used to expire when tanks came on the scene) made it simply too good. The same could be said about JS Bach's Cathedral. That one should probably expire when nukes come on the scene, or with Genetics, or something like that...

I would advise you to edit it in your editor so that the Temple of Artimis never becomes obsolete. However, if you do this, I would advise you to make it more expensive to build, since it will probably become arguably the best wonder if you do this.

Maybe what could happen is that it will either:

A) Only destroy temples on the same continent that were built after the Temple of Artimis' continent.

or

B) Don't destroy any temples but instead charge the normal mantinence for them. No new temples will be built automatically after it is obsolete.

Ding ding ding ding, we have a winner! Perfect idea.

Sims2789, it does your option A right now. Ones that you actually built remain when it disappears.

Do I still have to pay the maintenance cost for temple built before TOA?

Not while the TOA is active.

And that's true for all wonders that give free support, such as Pyramids and Sun Tzu. In fact, you can sell your granaries and barracks once getting these wonders, and still have them because of the wonder. As I recall, if you have a granary before getting pyramids, you will still pay maintenance on the improvement until you sell it.

no, if u have a granary and u are making 2 gpt, and u build the pyramids u will make 3 gpt and have the granary int he city and all other cities for free

I base that on the fact that if you look in the city screen, it still shows it taking maintenance fees. Also, you can sell one you previously had.

What version are you playing juballs2001? Turner's answer sounds right to me, but it has been so long since I've played a regular game I don't know for certain.

I get irritated when the AI right next to me builds the ToA because then all of my cultureless cities start flipping to them..

Yes, as a warmonger, i appreciate the instant temples. Of course, i prefer not to build it myself, but acquire it by other means..... :D
