I've given up on this game

Civilization 4 Vanilla was such an awesome game. When I played it, it was nearly perfect with not that many bugs. I bought beyond the sword and boy was I a happy camper. All the new features made this game an even better one. However, the fun factor has hit rock bottom when I started playing it. This has got to be one of the buggiest games I've ever played. When my people attack they die and get back up and then you have to read the messages on who won.

Thats not the only thing, sometimes this game just keeps saying "waiting for civilizations" and just freezes on that. The movies don't work unless you hide the backround and I had to download all sorts of crap just to open the game. You may think this needs to be in the bug section, but I felt the need for some attention lol. Anyways, how can the developers not of come out with a patch yet? This crap has been going on way too long. 3.03 didn't fix anything.

3.03 is crap - a well documented fact. All the issues you have said are wholly documented in the Bugs Forum. Might want to look there about the "waiting for civilizations" bug, it hasn't happened to me since 3.02 (I am still using 3.02 + solvers/Blakes patch - Blake is doing a lot of the AI and code fixes).

My movies work fine thank you very much. It may have something to do with an inadequate graphics card or buggy drivers for such.

Buggiest game ever? I don't think you've played that many different games then...

P.S. You just stated three bugs..... sheesh, and I thought I was going into a full report on the bugs of Civ IV.

3.03 did create some problems thought,i have had some too so i reinstalled the game, patch only 3.02.

It's interesting, but of all the bugs and problems of all kinds I have read of in all the posts I have not experienced a single one with BTS. It is as though every computer in the world has a different personality. The game can't be all the problem or surely I would have had some of these problems. No, wait, I can build the Military Academy before its time. That's about it. I love BTS, it's many, many options are wonderful and it plays like a dream. And yes, I have played all the way to the end of several games.

I usually don't play that many pc games, but I love the civ series and civ 2 got me hooked. It's just I can't understand why they would release a patch that would only make it worse.

As a Civ2 player, you *do* know that Microprose released a completely broken patch for that game, i.e. the AI just sat there drooling while the player took over the world?

Of course they didn't intend to make 3.03 a bad patch. They made a mistake in building it from a bad branch of the code when all they wanted to do was to bundle DirectX with the existing 3.02 patch, and add some Vista fixes. As a result, 3.03 has some *very* annoying errors.

It's certainly embarassing for Firaxis, but not the first time this happens to the franchise. However - and that's why I'm quite forgiving in that regard - you can count on them working hard to set it right. Firaxis does support its games for a very long time. So in a week or two, the 3.03 botch-up will hopefully be history.

Can your computer handel the game? Try lowering Video settings.. Mine can do high, but it makes it impossible to play around the end(mostly because I have no video card just onboard... I shoulda spent the extra 70bucks when I got it from dell!)

They have no open media policies at most stores.. been there for atleast 10 years lol, I remember i bought a game... and It didnt work on my old computer... I got screwed out of 60 bucks. damn it wasa blizzard game too idk which one it was tho...

Do i need to go to add remove programs? Last time I tried to do that with civ4 it wasn't on there.

It should be there. Check again - you might have overlooked it. It's listed as "Sid Meier's Civilization", so you won't find it if you look under "C".

If it's not there, I'd simply rename the Civ4 folder and try to make a new install to same folder as last time. If it doesnÄt work, you can simply rename the original folder to its original name and continue playing.

The other option is to put up with the shortcomings of 3.03 until the next patch comes, which (according to the producer) might be due in about two weeks, given that the QA department doesn't find any bugs in it.

man a gfx card for 70$ is barely better than an onboard one, so dont feel bad.

Expect to cough at least 150$ for a decent one, and middle range is considered to be in the 200-400$.

Unfortunately, for you, we can not all wait for your upgrade before playing better games. This game runs fine for me on my outdated processor, but I did invest in decent memory and graphics. I feel you I really do, but you need to shell out some coin. Maybe you spent 2 grand on a comp and it doesn't play this game, but you didn't know what you were buying. Price doesn't always equate to performance.

Also, why did you buy Vista? It sounds like you just want the latest everything without a clue why. Maybe you should try opening civ with your fancy media player or something? Joking... but instead of Vista you should have bought a new graphics card.

I've never patched this game and I don't have any problems with it. I heard that spys polluting you can ruin a game on marathon, but who cares. Poison me and I'll poison everyone!

last I remember when u put the CD in it popped up a thing saying "play" or uninstall if it dont goto the "My ComputeR" Right click the CD click explore, then open the set up. This should give you the old "Remove" or "Fix" display. Short of that you should be able to find it in Add/Remove Programs if you are Administrator.

Do i need to go to add remove programs? Last time I tried to do that with civ4 it wasn't on there.

That happened to me when I tried to install BtS actually. The install froze before it added all the files... I tried to uninstall and start over, but it wasn't in the add/remove programs, and it wouldn't let me install... no install option: it said play, even though it obviously wouldn't. I had to go to the "Add New Programs" page with disk 1 in the reader and reinstall it again before it would show up in "add/remove programs" or actually play.

edit-Switch your power settings to "Presentation" to turn off screensaver and it won't auto power off of the disks, to make sure there is no messing up of the install (or uninstall). The stupid home/office powersaver settings have ruined more than one install/uninstall of mine, and you never know what messes up. Powersaving is useful when you're actually using the machine, but not when you are trying to un/install software.

Hehe you must not have playd civ3 then, it would only work in vanilla without crashes. Any patch or mod and it crashed at some point during the game. The horrible thing was it then always crashed at that point, meaning it ended your current game.
