I've had enough of Firaxis, 2k Games and Steam...

Alright, so I installed that virus know as "Steam", that seems to take complete control over your games, just to be able to try the demo.

Steam installs it, then the game crashes during the opening video. And I'm far from alone. A new game should never make your computer crash. It should tell you "Error with GPU, please update your drivers" or something like that. Steam is supposed to make things easier, but as usual, when things don't work, it's impossible to fix issue when you depend on a third-party software. I've never had a problem with starting a Firaxis game before.

There is no way that I'll buy this game, even if they find a solution to these issues. This is simple not acceptable. Thank god that I didn't pre-order the game.

Just because you had a bad experience doesn't mean everyone did...

Mine downloaded in 5 minutes and is running fine apart from AA not working.

Mandatory question: Are your drivers up to date?

So what is your computer health like? WHen is the last time you did a fresh install? Do you have the latest drivers? Do you have too many extra programs running? Do you have adequate cooling and ventilation in your system. 99% of the time it's your own systems fault and not the programming. In the 20+ years I've been playing PC games, I never had one crash at initial startup.

Calling Steam a virus is the most ignorant thing I've seen on these forums in weeks. Such a bitter, sad person you are.

I'm having the same AA issue with the retail version, seems to be pretty universal. Hopefully that means a patch will fix it and there's not something wrong on my end

It's unfortunate that valid users are punished with such things.. seems there are alot of problems with people on 2K forums as well. I have yet to decide if I want the virus on my system yet or not, to try the demo.

After your computer re-started, did it crash again from Steam?

Your post describes yourself as well for making such a comment.

Steam = DRM. His problem is directly related to Digital Rights Management software that crashed his computer system. Yes, he should be disgusted by that.

Are you new to PC gaming or something? Every big release ever always has a handful of specific PC configurations not work properly. You can't test for problems that could occur for millions of different configurations until it's on millions of different PCs. I'm sure it would work if you just update your drivers or remove the intro video.

He didn't say steam crashed, the intro video of the demo crashed and he's blaming it on steam when it likely has nothing to do with steam.

I had a fresh install two weeks ago, all drivers are up to date and my system is above the minimum requirements. People on the 2k boards have the same issues even with really powerful systems. It's pretty obvious that the game is rather unstable, which I expected already when I watched the online stream (even though that was an internal build).

Also, I've been playing games since 1991 never had a crash at initial startup... until today that is.

I have not been able to install from the disk. Steam is downloading the game and it will be ready in 7 hours through my DSL line. Take says that is the only way to do this. Total BS. Taking the game back to Best buy.

What's the AA issue? What's AA stand for?

You're really new to PC gaming aren't you? AA stands for anti-ailiasing. It's a graphics feature that is very demanding of video card Power that smooothes he edges of polygonal 3d objects so they don't look jaggy. You only turn it on with high end video cards.

The fact that the game needs third-party software to work, makes it a lot harder to solve errors manually. This is the reason why I never, ever, would install any anti-virus software, because they interfere more than they help.

I never felt so bad in my life.

I timed my day all correctly, when I wake up and go to the PC check on civ V, steam says the game is only going to be released in 2 days ....

I feel like punching someone real hard now, I certainly dont know why I cant install my :):):):)ing game and play it, but its getting on my nerves

I'm not new, I know that anti-aliasing is, I just never seen it abbreviate it to AA. I realized soon enough what it was as I've seen another thread about it.

That's wrong. You can install from the DVD if you dont input the code until AFTER you install from the disc. I've done that with other Steam games before no problem.

For me the intro video crashes and sends me straight to the start menu. Very good in my opinion, because I tried feverishly to skip it.
