I dont know **** about civ editing and no one is helping me.

I just want to install the hitler leaderhead into the German empire and civilopedia.

I have the vanilla Civ. Anybody willing to post their XML files?

I try so hard, but a noob can get so far. <<< sig quoteage.

I am just finding it so hard to get a response from anybody here.

I feel your pain. When you are eager to make a change but are unsure how to do it, no one can help you fast enough. But I think on stuff like this, adding a leaderhead art and such, is relatively easy in the great scheme of things, and if you will go to the tutorial section you will find a number of detailed threads describing how to do what you want to do.

I've asked a dozen or so questions, and have received some replies, and some folks simply gave me the info I needed. But most have done what I am doing, which is to suggest you read some of the tutorials and guides that explain what is involved. I begrudingly did the same, and though I am still a noob in many respects, I did learn to do a number of simple XML things that made a big difference.

But this leaderhead has been downloaded nearly 500 times. So I'd thought someone here would have had the XML posted somewhere.

Have you looked at Saketh's Hitler for Warlords mod? It'll show you the files you need to edit. For the most part, you can probably just cut and paste the data from that mod into some vanilla Civ4 xml files. I think the only thing that needs to be changed would be the leader traits.

In short, how much research did you actually do?

you will have to change more than 1 xml file.

this was the first post on the tutorial page:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=148507

...scroll down to the second post and it deals with leaderheads. it doesnt give all the info such as what texts files to edit but if you check out the wiki link in the first post you shoudl find the info there... also you will likely find a better post about addng specificly a letterhead. just take 3-4 minutes and look in the tutorials forum.

Not to criticize your approach, but ALL of the necessary guides to do what you want are available on the site. 2 Weeks ago I knew nothing about modding. Now I can do it. All I did was read the guides and tried some things out.

If you get an error, the game tells you where the error is.

Im just curious.... You have posted in numerous threads, to hte point of pretty much demanding a leaderhead for Hirohito.... what are you going to do when its finished?

Im not trying to be cruel, Im just saying, quit being lazy and do a little research. Everything that you need to know has been made available, everyone here has been very accomidating in that respect. But there has to be a point where you step in and take control of your own adjustments.

Quoted for big-time truth. Everybody should be put down to chains and read this.

Well you see some people do not have enough free time to read pages of stickies, thus rely on others to guide them through.

Some people do have jobs in the summer.

As time passes, man learns more information. So by the time the Hirohito leaderhead is released I would have well advanced in knowledge.

I have spent many hours trying to edit the XML, reading stickies and after all of the grueling pain-staking editing. I get this,

Then I come to the realisation that I've "I've had enough" and the harder I try the more re-installing I would have to do. Therefore the more frustration I get.

Then someone has the nerve to tell me "quit being lazy and do a little research" and make me laugh about the lack of knowledge this person has about this.

Do you understand?

Well it tells what line the error is on. It looks like you maybe deleted the favorite civic tag. Or you did something wrong updating to Warlords since its talking about vassals. Do you have the vanilla schema file in your mod for some reason?

Indian, I didnt mean to insult. I mearly suggest to do a little deductive reasoning.

Firstly, You should backup the files you are editing. That way, if you cant get them working, you just use the backups to replace the edited one.

Secondly, Not to quote myself but...

If you get an error, the game tells you where the error is.

The Error Says "Failed to load the CivLeaderInfo.XML" (This means that is where the error is), Right after it, it says the reason.

(This should be where you should start looking)

Now its saying its expecting the FavoriteCivic Tag.... but instead its getting the VasselRefuseAttitudeThreshold Tag....

Maybe the FavoriteCivic tag should be located?.... a few lines after that, Low and behold, there it is!...

So now you can see that there are 2 extra lines of code. (Both having to do with Vassels)

Try deleting those lines of code. This would make sense because:

A) Vassels are a Warlords Option
B) Your Using Vanilla Civ, which doesnt know what a Vassel is and thus is getting confused.

Or you could download the new mod that was made for Vanilla files.

Heres the errors I get with the vanilla download

No leaders load up whatsoever.

This line got my attention

Why are you having to reinstall? Are you modifying the main game files? If so, you shouldn't. Just copy those files you want to edit and put them in their own mod directory. That way if you mess them up you can just recopy the clean core file and start over.

Bull****. You can drop that condescending tone right there.

ArbitraryGuy has a wife and newborn, and I believe is attending graduate school.

Snafusmith is one of the more prolific and talented artists here. I understand he's in the military.

I'd argue that far more of their time is taken up by other responsibilities than your summer job. In fact, a fair portion of this community consists of working adults. Having a job does not remove one's basic reading comprehension, nor does it place you above any of the people here who've sacrificed their free time and energy to provide for the community. Go learn some basic manners, and while you're at it, read the tutuorials section.

That's part of the problem. I posted an FAQ about downloading, installing and playing a new civ, and I still see the same questions posted.

It's a brief FAQ - divided into sections, not pages and pages.

The problem, indian, is that many users ask for direction. Someone spends time giving them direction, and they're never heard from again. I've even PMed people detailed instruction only to receive no reply, and to find they haven't visited this area of the forum (or the forum at all) in days and days.

That's why stickies and FAQs are so crtical - they minimize repetition and they remove the need to person-to-person contact (because that, alone, can be so difficult).

As for a summer job, not a good excuse, to be honest. Most of the modders I work with here have wives and families. Many have insanely demanding careers. People are busy but anything worth having comes at a price.

FAQs/Stickies are design to reduce the cost. Take advantage of them.

indian,

Here's a bit of practical advice that may help you - and I'm sincerely trying to help here. Learn a bit of XML by comparing vanilla files to modded files. Start with something simple like Text files. The CivilizationInfos file isn't too bad, take a look at that one too.

Then, volunteer to help with a mod - even if it has NOTHING to do with XML or graphics. Offer to put together pedia entires from Wiki, etc. (even simpler because it's just a matter of google research and Word)

This way, you'll build a network of contacts, so when you need help, you'll have resources to draw from.

That mod indian just linked is for Warlords, not vanilla civ. Saketh must have typoed on the download page cause he says to put it in Civ4/Mods when it should say to put it in Civ4/Warlords/Mods.

nah dude he just didnt change the description

d/l it and see for yourself

thanks much appreciated
