I've just tried a couple of archipelago games... wow!

Great tips, GF... sounds like a real winner with Oracle and early Forge.

While Industrious or Expansive look sweet for the second trait, I'm definitely gonna try Organized as the second trait for my next Arch game. The reduced civic upkeep plus cheaper courthouse combined with cheap lighthouse sounds like a real winner on a sprawling Arch map. As for Expansive, the Harbor is one of the cheapest buildings anyway, and Granary not far behind (although it is critical). +2 health/city is real nice in the long run, but not in the all-important early land grab. Industrious is nice but I'd rather make a bigger, healthier civ that has more options for everything (inc. Wonders) with Organized, than Industrious which mainly focuses on Wonders. Looks like I'll be trying Geo. W. for the first time.

Just thinking out loud. They're all good thoughts, and the tip on getting Colossus tech real early really helps.

What is "whip"?

JOE, I started reading your thread... had not heard of a SG (shows how much I get around), but sounds like a fun idea. Man, you got a great start! On my 2 Arch games, I've only seen one island that even comes close to that. I've never seen anything that big. Both mine were Tiny, so island size must be related to map size. Makes sense. I like smaller maps so games are shorter IRL but a SG is a whole nother matter.

In case anyone hasn't noticed - if you're looking to sell your technology, check with AIs right after you finish a Wonder. If they were working on it too, they just got a big pile of cash.

Huh... I'm on my third Arch game, trying Geo. W. this time... I have the Colossus and just built Taj Mahal (Golden Age)... and I'm swimming in bags of gold on all my coasts! W00t!
