Not really a solution to your problem, but try Firefox (and if there is a problem with that too you will know its not the browsers)

Does it only affect Internet Explorer or other programs too?

I'm on about my 6th keyboard due to spilling beer on keyboards.

Copy or cut a space from text and press CTRL+V every time you want to use a space.

You're welcome to use any of my spaces. They worked well for me.

Did you try rebooting?

Unplug the keyboard, and try prying out the key with a small knife, cleaning it a bit, and pop it back in. Often works for me. Sometimes keys get stuck together.

On most keyboards, its near impossible to get the spacebar back on cus its got some springs set up.

I've cleaned several keyboards, and never had a problem getting the keys back on. Including the spacebar.

Every single keyboard Ive cleaned had the spacebar on either a spring or multiple mount points that are synced with a metal shaft. Then again, most keyboards I've cleaned have been mechanical switch keyboards. I don't have extensive experience with regular consumer keyboards.

EDIT -- This argument is irrelevant anyways.

OP -- Do you have a laptop or desktop? If its a desktop, you can try the keyboard on another computer. If it works, its a software issue, if it doesnt, the keyboard itself is dead.

 isn't that really old tech?

Mechanical switch keyboards are better for typing on. These membrane things are just cheaper. They make too much noise though, the mechanical ones ;)

I like the noise. It tells me nicely when Ive pressed a key and when I havent.

I've cleaned a number of keyboards over the years. I pop all the keys off and wash them separately. Most of the spacebars have had some form of a spring. Reassembling that has never presented a problem on any that I have worked on.

Hmm, maybe I'll get one

I cleaned several spacebars. some of them are tricky to get back in but its possible. This is from someone with bad motor skills.

It helps if you read the rest of the thread:
