Despite having remained single and independent throughout her life she had always attracted, and indeed occasionally welcomed, an attractive suitor or tow. It was a dangerous game wooing the Queen but still many were prepared to risk it as the prize was so great. Being her favourite was a position of considerable power but on losing her interest there was a tendency to literally lose ones head at the same time.
The Queen was clear in her desires. The young man from Greece had been most accommodating recently and his cheeky grin still made her smile.
Her patience with the calculating bearded Saladin had been exhausted what was he thinking sending her camels for a Birthday present. An insult that needed to be responded to appropriately and the price would be hard indeed for Arabia to bear.
