Welcome to the Japanatica Shimbun! (That's "Japanatica Newspaper" in Japanese). This will be the main record thread for the demogame, in which news updates will be held.

Demogame V has started!

The fifth installment of the CFC Civ3 Demogame has just gotten underway! Forums were put up this evening. If you would like to register for the demogame, you can sign up here. This game will be played as Japan.

Nominations are underway!

Nominations for term 1 have begun. The old Culture and Science Advisor posistions have been brought back after a passioned debate during DG4. Feel free to nominate yourself for a position today!

The DG5 civ has a name, and flag!

After a collection of names, and a preliminary poll, which included "Japanatica", and "Apathetica" (an inside joke regarding DG4), Japanatica won the final polling. This marks the 3rd time the Demogame News has had a different first letter. ("P" in DG1, and "F" in DG2-4). The demogame flag discussion is nearing completion, and a poll should be up soon.

Elections winding down

The demogame elections have seen near-record numbers, with 50-some votes. (The record is in the 60s). If you haven't yet voted, the polls end tonight. There are several very tight races, including the race for the Science Advisor, which will more than likely have a runoff-poll due to the shear number of canidates. These elections had 20 votes already within the first 2 hours of polls opening.

Demogame Constitution nearly ratified

Except for a few articles which missed out on ratification by 1 vote, the constitution is nearly in place. Discussion is taking place on an updated version of the articles in the citizens subforum. In a few days, these will be put up for a vote. Remember to "Vote Now, and Vote Often!".

Intra-site demogame a possibility!

There have been talks, and a distinct possibility of CFC setting up its' own team-based demogame. The idea has been push heavily by Octavian X, and BCLG. The thread is in the citizens forum, and teams are forming now. What's remained to be seen is the number of teams that will form.

Third time's the charm

After a mis-start, and another mis-test start due to an overly-enthusiastic DP, (Designated Player) - you would be, too after a 2 month hiatus! - the demogame finally got underway. The first city has been founded, and many polls have been made on the second city. Our world appears to be a rugged, and dry planet.

Join a citizen group today!

There are a multitude of citizen groups forming in the demogame. What is a citizen group? It's a bit of roleplay to "live out" the demogame. A group can reflect the daily life of its' citizens, or be a group to push for the acquasition of a resource, such as spices. Even though citizen groups are allowed, political groups and parties are not.

Alas, Babylon! We know thee well!

Just moments ago, and not too far into the game, we have met Babylon, a long-time nemesis of the demogame. They started the famous Domino War in DG1, nearly won by culture in DG2, were a presence in DG3, and attacked us early on in DG4. Currently, we are discussing trade deals to the Babylonians.

Crowded Neighborhood

We have passed the 1500BC mark, and have already met 4 out of 5 civs on our landmass (most likely a continent). We have met Babyon, Rome, Zulus, and the Iroquois. The Zulus know the French, which our northern warrior is searching for. Most of these civs are on the southern part of the continent with us, and war looks to be in our near future.

Demogame RPG forums added!

Back by popular demand, the Demogame RPG forum has once again been added. The Demogame RPG is for citizens of the game to play out a character living in the demogame world. Currently, there's an arena, bar, and several temples. Click here to view the Demogame RPG. Remember, you need to sign up for the demogame first before you can join.

Nomination Season nearing

Nominations will be underway very shortly, and should be an exciting term. The people are starting to talk about going to war against one of our neighboring civs. Be sure to look at the forums tomorrow night (EDT) for the nominations.

Elections Winding Down

DG5 Elections will be over tonight after a pretty good voter turnout (50+ votes in the Presidential election - 10 less than last term). The Presidential was close on day one, with Chieftess and Daveshack running neck and neck. Chieftess' lead slowly pulled ahead, and she now leads by 10. The election for science is set in stone for Black Hole, but there's still a tight race for the deputy between Strider and mhcarver. Foreign Affairs, Military, and Domestic will also see newcomers to the game in those positions.

Decisions... Decisions... Decisions...

Currently being discussed is the creation of provincial borders for Zarnia, a possible war with Rome, and several legal discussions. Things are naturally slow around election time, and the fact that it's the start of the school year for most, but there will also be a turnchat today at 7:00pm EDT (2300 GMT) in the #turnchat room. (Go to the Chatroom, and select #turnchat from the drop down list to attend the turnchat. (Or, type in /server irc.irc-chat.net in mIRC, and then /join #turnchat).

Contact with the French

We have also contacted the French, which may be the last civ on our continent (unless a landbridge shows that we are on a pangaea). We are equal to them, and all other civs in techs, except for the Zulus, who know Mathematics. This makes 5 other known civs on our continent.

JNN Update - 500 AD

A Peaceful World... Article by Chieftess

The past month of the demogame has been fairly peaceful with settlers expanding into every nook and cranny in the continent. The only war was a minor Iroquois war in which the Iroquois lost 4 warriors attacking Immo.

The Eastern World Article by Ginger_Ale
The galleys of Japanatica have reached the borders of the new world, filled with civilizations from India, Russia, China, America, Germany, and the Aztecs. After some intense negotiations, the scholars of Japan learned of the topography of our sister continent. We now are the link between continents for many years to come.

The Roman War Article by Ginger_Ale
After conquering the former capital of the Roman Empire, Rome, the war like forces of Japan set their sights to Rome's northern city, Viriconium. A newly built Samurai defeated a Roman unit, thereby throwing our prosperous civilization in to a golden age! Many Japanense cities are using this time to improve, by building such structures as Cathedrals and marketplaces. Japanese scientists have also started to use this time to research at a furious pace, and become the leader in
technology. Japanese samurai will continue to defeat Roman units, until they are wiped off the face of the earth.

Strider and I started a journalists citizen group...that might have some more recent news, but not recent enough...it should be started up again.

Some quick news; we are at war with Russia after they attacked a lone gathering of units and settlers on their continent. We had MPPs with some nations, which led to a world war against the Russians. We built/are building the Hoover Dam, ToE, and Battlefield Medicine. We are superior in technology. :)

Ask Chieftess to make more updates..or keep it up to date...or get a volunteer.

Civ3 DG5 - JNN Update - 1630 AD

World War!

Recently, the Russians have attacked our settling party on the 2nd continent. America, Aztecs, and French quickly followed suit, along with China later on in the war. There have been skirmishes on our continent as well, between the French and the Babylonian-Iroquois Alliance. Despite it being a world war, it was a relatively short one, with us gaining 4 Russian cities. This has been the only thing of note in the past few months, while we were enjoying a fairly peaceful game.

UN Vote Looms!

DG6 is within 8 turns of completion, with discussion and polling on where the UN should be built. There will be one more turnchat this Sunday at 1:00am EST, 6:00am GMT, and then a victory chat.

Discussion for DG6

Discussion is starting to get underway for the next installment of the Civ3 Demogame series. While discussion is currently on the ruleset, it is still unclear as to what version of Civ3 (vanilla/PTW/C3C) we will be using. Once that is decided, discussion on our next world will start!
