--Pre-Turn (3200BC)
Looks fine. We need more worker techs, the worker has nothing to do. I will micromanage Washington to grow and finish lighthouse together. Then build settler and send southeast.

--Turn 1 (3160BC)
Scout finishes exploring our island. I will send him to southeast corner to bust as much fog as possible.

<See attachment>

--Turn 2 (3120BC)
Animal Husbandry finishes. Mining seems the clear choice. Next choice will be harder -- Wheel or Bronze Working?
Start a Pasture on the closer Cow.

--Turn 3 (3080BC)
First Lion shows up.

--Turn 4 (3040BC)
Hinduism FIDAL.

--Turn 5 (3000BC)
Lighthouse finishes and Washington grows to 2. Decide that a warrior escort is needed for the settler, so start that.

--Turn 6 (2960BC)
First pasture finishes. Start working it. Send worker up to pasturize other cows.

--Turn 7 (2920BC)
...

--Turn 8 (2880BC)
Scout kills that lion.
Mining comes in. Decide to go for Bronze Working in 8. We have excess forests to chop.

--Turn 9 (2840BC)
Scout healing.

--Turn 10 (2800BC)
Spot another lion in the west. Second pasture finishes.

--Turn 11 (2760BC)
Send worker towards gold.

--Turn 12 (2720BC)
Warrior finishes in Washington, and Washington grows to 3.
Start settler. Only 8 turns with the 3 great tiles we're working.

<See attachment>

--Turn 13 (2680BC)
Start the gold mine.

--Turn 14 (2640BC)
ZZZ.

--Turn 15 (2600 BC)
Fortify the warrior in a fogbusting spot to wait for the settler.

<See attachment>

Very good then. Settler coming in 5. Bronze Working coming in 3. Research The Wheel next, I think. Lots of forests in the north half that I don't think we really need since there are plenty of hills.

Have fun.

Turn 0: Looks fine, move our warrior/scout a bit to improve fog.

Turn 0 EOT: barb lion appears from west.

Turn 1: Worker finishes mining fold. Work that tile, cutting BW research from 2 to 1.

Turn 1 EOT: BW is in. Go for...Wheel next.

Turn 2: I'm going to move warrior out to west ( no happiness concerns atm) to clear the west fog and help deal with lion. Worker can initiate chopping so if needed I can get more warriors. Will get another worker though after settler's done unless something unexpected happens.

Turn 3: worker begins chopping

Turn 4: Warrior meets lion to the west of capital

Turn 4 EOT: Warrior in forest beats lion. Settler is done (worker not done chopping). Hmm, can get warrior in 1 turn so I'll do it 1st then worker.

Turn 5: Move settler out. We're financial and organized so we can't immediately expand our borders in our other cities.

Turn 5 EOT: warrior done, begin worker.

Turn 6: warrior moves out to help clear fog, settler gets into position.

EOT TUrn 6: writing comes in, go for..bit of a detour. mysticism.

Turn 7: New York is founded SE Of capital. BEgin lighthouse there. Other units keep moving.

Turn 8-9: :hammer:

Turn 9 EOT: Mysticism done. Worker done. MAsonry up next. Capital begins stonehenge.

Turn 10: Workers begin chopping

Turn 11-12: :hammer:

Turn 13: Stonehenge only 3 turns away now

Masonry comes in. Pottery for next.

Turn 14: :hammer:

Turn 15: Stonehenge due this turn. Switched to hunting from pottery here once I saw we can work that ivory (both @ 3 turns). Maybe go for pyramids once NY's border expands and we hook up the stone, we can go for Great Lighthouse anytime. Maybe chop out a couple more settlers too. Couple screenshots follow:

Our empire atm. I neglected more settler pumping for now due to the relatively easier availability of wonders at this level.

Joe-2000BC-fog.JPG
Available units are placed to minimize fog and thus minimize chances of barbs. I queued a work boat in New York to explore the outlines of other islands such as the one shown here, but if we chance upon more pressing needs feel free to delay it.

Good luck!

Ack! Perplexity, you played my saved game file, not temmage's! He'd already played these turns out!

Temmage, since goraemon has very quickly played his turn as well, do you want to go again from goraemon's save file, since your go was "wiped"?

1. JesusOnEez (on deck) (10 turns)
2. Perplexity (10 turns)
3. goraemon (10 turns)
4. temmage (up) (15 turns)

3. Morred (MIA)

Looks like New York will eventually be our cash cow...maybe specialise as a research city in the longer term.

Geeze that was a silly mistake. Sorry Temmage. I just reread both of our turnlogs, really not much difference. Just slight research order changes.

Anyway, looks good.

Heh, no big deal. :D

I'll go using Goraemon's save file. Will do it tonight. (GMT -8)

Pre-Turn: Everything looks fine.

Turn 1: Livy completes his greatest work. We’re the seventh most powerful nation. What does he know anyways? ;) Stonehenge finishes! We see glimpses of land to the north of us. I opt for pyramids and send workers to immediate construct and link the stone.

Turn 2: The worker begins construction on the stone quarry. New York finishes its lighthouse and begins construction on workboat. I micromanage to have New York growth in six turns.

Turn 3: Hunting finishes. I resume Pottery which will finish in only 2 turns. I micromanage Washington so that Pyramids will finish in 33 turns without stone.

Turn 4: Worker finishes a mine west of Washington. I move him east so that he can help in linking up the stone.

Turn 5: Pottery finishes. I opt for Writing to get libraries.

Turn 6: Nada.

Turn 7: Worker arrives to the area near the stone and begins building roads.

Turn 8: Worker finishes quarry so I have him build roads.

Turn 9: Writing finishes. I opt for Iron Working so that we begin, in the near future, to clear out the jungle for further expansion. New York grows. Worker finishes road so I have him build a camp on the ivory.

Turn 10: Stone is connected. Pyramid will finish in 13 turns! :goodjob: Worker finishes quarry.

Turn 11: Worker begins work on pasture south of New York.

Turn 12: Nada.

Turn 13: Worker finishes camp on ivory west of new York. I move him over to Washington so we can connect the gold.

Turn 14: Nada.

Turn 15: Worker finishes pasture on cows. I have him begin work on a farm near New York. The other worker arrives at the gold mine and I have build a roads. I micromanage New York so that it can grow in two turns.
====
Pointing out two locations that we can possibly explore. Personally, I would perfer the north one since its closer and thus easier for settlement.

01landmass9eh.jpg

I think this area would be a good spot for our next settlement. Its not completely surrounded by jungle and has access to cows for fast growth and (ivory and gold depending on where we position the city.)

02area8tj.jpg

Well, we'll down to the standard 10 turn turnset.
1. JesusOnEez - up
2. Perplexity - on deck
3. goraemon
4. temmage - just played

I'm busy so I might not be able to play as often on the weekdays. I don't know how everyone else's real life committments are but can we consider getting a fifth or even sixth player into this game?

Temmage, I've requested another couple of players in the SG thread in response to your post. I've requested a fifth player, but the sixth position is open on the provisio that Morred gets it if he reappears.

Also, long term techs...obviously we need to be ahead on naval units when the scrapping starts, and obviously land units as well. You can only get a military type victory, so military and naval tachs are the way to go. We should also reasearch anything to do with science...build science wonders, crank at great reasearchers etc...generally we should ignore culture to apart from growth needs and if we can afford to build a wonder to stop someone else getting it (Taj Mahal)?

...thoughts.

PRETURN
Micromanaged London to get The Pyramids in 7 as opposed to 8.
Micromanaged Washington to get Iron Working in 3 as opposed to 7.

TURN 1
Nothing

TURN 2
Mine West of Washinton finished...sent Worker down S/SE to build another farm

TURN 3
Entered Classical Era. Iron Working comes in and we have it...on the same spot as the farm that was built SE of Washington. Glad I started the workers on another farm as we'll be wanting to mine that! Start Compass (17). No point going for Alphabet yet as we don't know anyone!

TURN 4
Work boat finished. Send it North for a closer look at that landmass. Start Library (30) to get this Science monster on the road to greatness.

TURN 5
Worker in New York finished farm. Send him north.

TURN 6
Start cottage South of New York.

TURN 7
Pyramids complete in Washinton! Start on Great Lighthouse (13). Drop reasearch to 90%. Thinking about getting that gold hooked up as soon as possible. MM Washington for quicker growth without changing production speed. Workboats can't explore ocean squares but luckily our borders have expanded enough that the work boat can explore the northern landmass. Worker completes farm S/SE of Washington. Send him to build a road to the gold. MM New York to get the library in 14 turns.

TURN 8
Nothing.

TURN 9
Nothing.

TURN 10.
Northern landmass is looking like it's very small...possible site for production monster as it's all hills so far.

I've created a new dotmap now we've got the entire island uncovered. We can cover all the resources with only a few wasted tiles and two shared tiles. Not too bad at all. We'd have to build on a dye resource but we've got so much of this stuff on the island I don't think it'd matter much. The rightmost island might make a good cultural city to pressure the borders on the landmass to the right. We can't send the boat over there as it's seperated by ocean and we have no border to allows us to cross it.

Might be worth churning out a few workers next to clear that jungle in readiness for new settlements.

*EDIT* Just realised...when The Pyramids finished I completely forgot to change civics, so that might be a priority for Perplexity.

10 turns only now.

1. JesusOnEez - just played
2. Perplexity - up
3. goraemon - on deck
4. temmage

5. open
6. open (maybe Morred)

Guys, I saw your request for more players over in the registration thread, and would like to join. :)

I've looked a little at the save, and wanted to point something out. :)

On the attached screenshot, outlined in blue are the ocean tiles. The rest is coast. As you can see, there's a two-tile passage to the east. Might be a good idea to go meet Alex (I think?) soon. :)

Shuffle dudes around to eliminate all fog.
Washington will finish Great Lighthouse in 10. Growth in 9. Note that this growth takes us over health limit. First GP will come in about 10 turns as well, most likely prophet.
New York will finish Library in 6, grow in 8.
Compass coming in 12.
Check out Civics, go to Slavery and Representation.

Turn 1
Nothing really. This is going to be a pretty boring set.

Turn 2
Work goes to mine the Iron. Too bad we had farmed there already. I queue up a road build for after the mine too. Northern island has Clams.

Turn 3
Another Clams on northern island. We'll have a good city there.

Cottage finishes in New York but I don't switch to it, the current worked tiles are too good.

Turn 4
Point the work boat towards the other revealed landmass in the east.

Turn 5
ZZZ

Turn 6
Get a please build a settler popup. It's true, we need to expand, very soon. Definitely going to build a settler right after Great Lighthouse.
Washington gets a culture pop. The fog busting guy in the west isn't needed any more, send him back to Washington.
MM New York so Library and pop growth will both come in 2 -- will build settler next.
Great Lighthouse is coming in only 4 turns now with the iron mine built.

Turn 7
Another settler popup. Heh.

Turn 8
Library finishes in New York, and population grows to 5. Start settler, will finish in 7. We might want to chop here.

Turn 9
Start a chop on a grassland hill for New York. Fortify warrior in Washington.

Turn 10

Great Lighthouse finishes. MM Washington for 1 turn growth. Start a granary to hold this turn's hammers. However I think we should switch to settler next turn.

750BC
So, a great person is coming next turn. 70% Prophet, 28% Engineer, 2% Merchant. I hope it's an Engineer.

Settler coming soon from New York thanks to the chop in progress. Probably should built another settler in Washington after the pop growth.

Work boat will be able to hop over to the other land next turn, and meet the Greeks.

Good times.

Obviously, military techs are the way to go. :) What I wanted to know is which specific military strategy do we want to employ? Tech to Cats and then Knights? Knights then Cats? Cats then dogs? :D

That island to the north looks like it could be a money making beast in the not too distant future...nice.

I've closed the sixth position, agree with Perplexity that five is enough. Don't know what happened to Morred...he has been posting since this started but it would have been nice if he'd said he didn't want to play instead of making us wait two days!

1. JesusOnEez -
2. Perplexity - just played
3. goraemon - up
4. temmage - on deck
5. vovan

Temmage, I haven't really had the game long enough to know best military techs, or what units are best against others (my first game had a cavalry stack get slaughtered by pikeman...). Most of the single player victories I've had have been peaceful, although yesterday I had a conquest victory on a tiny map with two AI's (only Warlord though), just to test some battle tactics.

Once we get to the military side of things, that's where I'll need the most advice from the guys who have had a bit more experience on the tougher difficulty levels. I don't want to put forward best tactics, 'cos they'll most probably be crap!

Are we aiming for The Colossus next? If we are lucky enough to get a Great Engineer, we could save him until The Colossus is available and get him to rush it...

Do we want to fill up our own island before making a beeline for the north island? Wouldn't want someone else sucking all the money from the water before we got there!

My two cents. ;)

I got it :)

Turn 0: MM capital to make use of the gold mine. Compass in 3 turns.

Turn 0 EOT: Moses (Great Prophet) is born in capital. Joined him onto capital for immediate production/gold/science boost since we have no religion. Workers work. I think we're going to need a couple more soon. We meet the Greeks. I trade one of our cows for his gems and open borders after which I move into his borders.

EOT Turn 1: Oracle is built in a far away land, and Confucianism is found in a distant land.

Turn 2: Capital grows. I had set it to build libraries and it's 3 turns away now so I'll finish that first.

EOT Turn 2: Compass in. Alphabet next.
Settler is built. Worker next.

Turn 3: Move settler towards the 3rd site by the 2nd gold mine. Worker is chopping the forest where settler will settle. Looks like it'll be perfect timing.

Turn 4: :hammer:

EOT Turn 4: Library done in capital. Granary next. Worker done in 2nd city. hmm...another Settler next.

Turn 5: Worker finishes chopping forest and settler founds Boston on that spot. Bunch of jungles but that'll change sooner or later.

Turn 6: Holy crap that Greek island has a bunch of gems we got to take that:) Seems like he doesn't have copper or iron atm either so we should probably switch gears to make that a priority within the next 10 turns or so. He's also got clam, fish corn AND horses!

Turn 7: :hammer: Switch NY from settler to Galley. Change of plans.

EOT Turn 7: Capital finishes granary. Barracks next.

Turn 8: :hammer: BTW we can research @ 100% with no loss.

Turn 9-10: workers action chopping forests around Boston.

ATM that Greek city has 3 archers inside it, and a galley. Now, we can either take a chance and try to go for it fast or we can take the slower, safer route. Alex does have other cities so it's not unusual for him to have found copper/iron there. If so, especially with the city's defense ratio at 40%, it's going to tough to take if he can build a couple axemen before we get there.

If we invade with galleys w/swordsmen/axemen (maybe 2-3 galleys with 2 units each) before Alex has a chance to build more/better units we should be able to take it. Capital will finish barracks next turn, then we can churn out units like every 2 turns. Perhaps build another galley and keep going back and forth with 2 units every 4 turns and the city should fall.

Or, we can research math/construction, building up our force a bit in the meanwhile, and churn out catapults every 2 turns and invade then. Then the AI will really stand no chance.

Which strategy is better all depends on whether Alex has/can get the resources to build better units quickly enough. I would personally keep an eye on that city with the work boat close by, while I prepare for a quick attack, and either attack ASAP with as little as 5-6 units in the best case scenario, or keep on building all the way up to catapults (and even war elephants but probably not necessary to go that far) and really bring it.

Alphabet will also finish in a couple turns so maybe we can trade techs with him before laying the smack down (we can also extort but AI can stubbornly refuse to give good techs even when they're at the brink of destruction so trading is prob safer).

As for Boston, the 2nd gold hill is now mined and should be used ASAP. I'm clearing out one of the forests by fresh water so we can farm it or whatever. Also when the city's border expands we can work the cow tile. Either way we should hit the gold mine when the city reaches size 2.

A few screenshots follow...

View attachment 111674

You think our start was good, just look at that piece of beauty. Bunch of $$$ and enough food to use'em all! And only archers! We WILL make it ours

Now watch out because his city has a Galley in it. So we should not risk losing our Galley with 2 units in them. Should not be a problem though because we can declare war and immediately drop off our units the same turn.

View attachment 111675

Our 3rd city. Once those jungles are cleared it looks like it'll be another nice production city with all those hills. But in order for us not to run out of food, at least of those hills will need to be windmilled rather than mined. That's not until much later though.

View attachment 111676

We're only barely above average on GNP right now. That'll improve once we take that Greek island. Also we need to seriously start looking into spots to spam more cottages. We're financial so we just use the tile for 10 turns and bam, we've got 3 gold instead of 2.

Joe-500BC-NY.JPG

Just for this last turn, I've maximized production to build that Galley by next turn but remember that as it is right now the city's not growing so you'll need to switch it back. And I recommend we not use the ocean tiles as long as we have cottages tiles instead.

View attachment 111679

Good luck!

Am I right in thinking that Athens is his capital as well? Ha, that'll annoy him! The fact he's got a galley means he must have upped and left to settle elsewhere, but taking his capital will seriously weaken him, especially with happiness and financial. Nice...killkillkill.

1. JesusOnEez -
2. Perplexity -
3. goraemon - just played
4. temmage - up
5. vovan - on deck

We still want to try and make sure we get metal casting and build the Collossus before anyone else...

Alrite, I'll make that a priority. Will play sometime tonight if not tommorrow.

Current Objectives:

Build Collossus
Take Athens with three Galleys and six swordsmen (anything else).

(Not necessarily in that order).

Is Alexander likely to have his special unit up and running? Don't know what it is off hand. Hopefully a stack of six swords will be enough. So, load up the Galleys, take then to the nearest border line, wage war and kill!

I assume if he's settled elsewhere we'll immediately ask for peace...it'll be a lot for him to recover from with us taking his capital and all those gems...if he's got other established cities, taking the gems might drop his other cities into an unhappy state. Thus, it should give us a good few turns to build a large enough force to take the rest of his lands...

...thoughts?
