With all these plantations going up, CS coming in, and a GS soon, our economy feels pretty good now We're now the biggest (in terms of land area) civ, but our cities are still young and need lots of worker love.
Techwise, what do we want to do after CS? I think Metalcasting->Machinery for Samurai is a fine idea, and it gets us closer to our boats, but Currency for the extra trade route & markets would be better initially for our economy. A market in Lake Placid would be great with CS coming in.
As for the next settler, how about the spot just S of Lake Placid? Low overhead since it's so close, lots of forests to chop in a courthouse/granary. Once we get a few farms down it should have good production, which is really what we need.
It also secures us stone, though nothing really to build with that just yet. Walls do contribute to our power rankings, though
We only need one more courthouse for the Forbidden Palace - where do we want to build it? I'm thinking Marubeni maybe? It will have plenty of forests to chop it in quickly. Marubeni might be a candidate for our Heroic Epic eventually, though... we want that built before we start our army. With Iron, Cows, two plains hills and a grass hill (and sugar so we can work 'em) it's about 20 hammers before any forests/workshops. It's also coastal, so it can build our navy.
With all these new cities we're really low on workers. Perhaps Brass Lions could spit a few more out before our next settler? With Angle (if we keep it), Uzbek (cows, wheat, gold, yum!) and our newest settler, that'd give us 12 cities which is a pretty nice base for now I don't think I've ever built this many settlers before, we'll need so many to fill up our island!
I think we should get another scout out, too. We used to be scared of the unclean, but not anymore! Let's see what else we can call home
BTW, the irrigation chain for Brass Lions was put in by me. I just saw it when i was playing the last time. Must have been the Civil Service thing. Actually, i have been doing this everytime i open this game. I have become an abuser of Alt-S.
OK. Civil service is in. Got masonry in two turns, setting Sanctuary to research. Started on its aquaduct. Please remember that when a stinkin' barb from Angle sets foot on one of its working tiles, it must MMd back once the offal has been removed. Strongly advise building an ax/medic for the stack building up @ Sanctuary.
I didnt have a chance to rename cities. Next turn, i promise.
Construction in 5 @ 50% sci +2 GPT. More swords are needed for Angle, or we can wait for our fancy new rock throwing machines.
I have one worker going to the tile designated "reserved for farm" for Lake Placid, and another is going to mine the desert hill for Sanctuary's aquaduct. The SAVE
Oh, that was a "got it." I'll play either tonight or tomorrow afternoon.
Right now, looking at the save, I think we should declare on Mao during my turnsets. We'll be forced to as soon as Chengdu gets it's first border expansion, and we don't want to fight two wars at once if that orangish fellow to the north's border expands (Huayna?) Also, Mao has a new city sitting right there with 0% cultural defense and only 1 archer in it. Best to take it out now.
I think I'll send the bulk of our force building at Sanctuary over to raze Mao (he should be a pushover) and then when catapults come in they can head back and take Angle. I doubt it will occur in my turnset, but I assume we want to raze Angle since it has all of the overlap with Sanctuary?
Right now Hiroshi the Explorer can attack Uzbek and take it with 86.7% chance. Want me to roll the dice on it? He's a little bit wounded, so he could get better odds, but I'm afraid that they'll have a second archer by the time that happens.
With our GS, he'll either discover Philosophy for us, or could build an academy in Lake Placid. I think the latter's better.
Techwise, after construction I'm planning on beelining to Samurai.
P.S. if we de-Anglify other city names, I would like to keep Sanctuary, Lake Placid, and Brass Lions. I'm pretty attached to those cities under those names.
I love supersizing the GS's too at some point wow..... like man wow.....

Saporro is generating 1 culture/turn, so it's going to be a while before borders expand. We could speed that up, though, with a library. That would give us a border pop in 3 turnsets or so when we'd have to declare... so if we could have a galley force ready and waiting we could get some use out of our Samurai before getting Astronomy.
We make contact once HC gets optics. Declaring on him is suicidal until we get astro if he gets it first. Ooooh, the implications of this variant are just sinking in!
Edited: Just realized that galleys can traverse cultural tiles, even ocean. Am i right on this?
Yes, you can make a "cultural bridge" And, the beauty of it is that he can't reach us (because he can't use our cultural tiles.) So he can't send any galleys in response.
Actually, that means we really need to expand our border, because if he gets the tiles first we'll have to declare and have no way to fight back ourselves... so I'm definitely going to rush a library up there.
One thing I don't know is our far you can push your cultural borders over the ocean - there's a limit, but I'm almost positive it's at least two tiles.
Okay, I'm going to go grab a cold one and play my turns now.
Hiroshi took Uzbek, only to die to a swordsman raider (we had over 75% odds of winning.)
Of course, when I attacked with my sword at Mao's capital at 73%, I lost.
Some notes:
1. Archers are being built in a few cities for military police. Lake Placid needs one when it grows in 5 turns. Keep building them as long as Lake Placid has decent tiles to work We want that city to grow big.
2. Our great scientist is... a Chinese empress! I almost had her put to death on general principle, but decided better of it. Hopefully her academy won't smell that bad... she's just finished moving to Lake Placid.
3. I whipped the Aqueduct in Sanctuary. I think it's better to whip 3 population every once in a while then waste two working mines. Because the game from the mines, we only lost 3 commerce. Also, we have 2 catapults inbound, and a sword and 2 axers there right now. That's probably enough to take the city if we bomb down the defenses and suicide both cats, but another sword/cat would be nice to be on the safe side. In order to be able to protect all the cottages, both axers are in the city now where they can take roads to any threatened one.
4. I razed two of Mao's cities including his. He should have two left now, but we can't see where they are. There aren't many places left for them to hide, though.
5. Our southern border is now completely barbarian free. There's no good land down there, unfortunately, but there are some horses if we ever wanted them.
6. Samurai are due in 8 turns, but that's with excessive spending due to razing money. With the academy going up, though, they should come in next turnset.
7. We'll expand our borders into contact with Huayna in about 30 turns. We have two galleys. If we could get a force of, say, 6 samurai, 4 cats, and 5 galleys, we could probably raze a few cities to set him back a bit before our galleons come on the scene.
10. I took some pictures, I'll post them later tonight.

Turn 0 (preflight) - Took a look around and everything looks good. Switched Kobeyashi Maru to rax, we should build rax in cities we're producing units from ... I think. And I found Mao Look at the center of the first pic. Turn 1 - Our scientist is sacraficed in the Academy for the good of all science. Turn 2 - Sactuary finished archer, starts on swordman. Turn 3 - Marubeni finished worker, starts on library. Brass Lion finished cats, starts on sword. Turn 4 - Sactuary finished cats, starts another cat. Kobeyashi Maru finished rax, starts on galley. Turn 5 - Kobeyashi Maru became an unruly lot, so I whip the galley and they are at max happiness. Our troops are finally healed and starts advancing towards Mao. And we learned some little tidbit out the Spanish Civ being wiped out no big deal really. Turn 6 - Kobeyashi finished galley, starts on colliseum (didn't want to whip again since it'll be unhappy for 29 turns). Turn 7 - Brass Lion finished sword, starts on cat. Turn 8 - Shuffled some troops around. Turn 9 - Our troops reached Mao.
Mao's remaining cities should be around that area, we can finish him off now. Once Sactuary finishes that sword, we're in position to take out Angle and get 2 free worker. Barbs are once again on the rise, we need fog busters til we can settle the land. Lake Placid is a rolling in it's own filth, get that duct out for it.
