dude who talking about civ 1.

The A.I does sometimes give you a city due to respect for your civilisation (I think if I remeber right that I maaged to get 2 american cities by that...ibibanago was a vast city with loadsa happy dudes and I think that lured the foreigners in.

I had that effect almost every game...certainly once I'd gotten good and would have large happy cities impressing the pants off foreign lands.

I've had the AI bribe me at least three times in TSFE. I don't know how they do it, since their is no spy unit.

It happened twice as Soviets. As German controlled Finn's, they bribed a pillbox near Lenningrad. Another time, I had a Red Army unit fortified on a mountain, and it was killing a lot of them. They bribed that one too.

It also happened just recently as I was the Finn's. The Soviets bribed a pillbox near Helsinki.

I think they use motorized troops to bribe, those are the ones that go to my units right before I see the message.

kOc, I don't think anyone was suggesting that they had cities bribed under democracy, I was the 'dude'

who mentioned that I had experienced units being bribed under democracy at Diety level.

In reference to what PinkyGen said, I don't think there is any doubt that the AI has the ability to cheat by bribing units using non-diplomat>spy units.

No, the AI can most definitely bribe using whatever unit they feel like using. In a game I was playing the other day, one of my units was bribed by . . . I believe it was a Dragoon. Anyway, it was some mounted unit, and I know for certain the AI had no Diplomats or Spies anywhere around. Just another of the AI's cheats that we all complain about even though we know that it couldn't last ten minutes without them.

The city was back, but I don't think it means they got it back as the capital.
Still a general city.

sekong, if I take a capital, the palace is destroyed. How would they get their capital back if they retook the city? I (thankfully) have never lost my capital, so I don't know if one is magically rebuilt upon recapture, although it would seem highly unrealistic if that were the case.

Yes, I remember it happened with one of my early CIV2 game. A spy war happened in one of my city with 2+ spies sentried inside.

I've had a city bribed at King level, but again, it was one I had just taken (I was most annoyed as I had just stacked it full of units far more advanced than the AI had developed).

Is it possible to use a spy to prevent bribery?

Yes, I did. I was playing on NA, and did not do much expanding toward European-Asian Continent. All of a sudden, I get a city at Middle Europe. A shining star surrounded by dark shadows. Next, I have to rush buy units to defend it

I guess it was a city in disorder. That also means in civ1 if u don't take care of city in disorder, it may choose to join another nation, if then its people can be happy.

Sometimes I have seen the AI bribe a unit from me. But not a City yet.

In Civ 1 though.....I would sometimes get AI cities because they envied my empire. A message came up and said, "Talxauuan (Some Aztec City) Envies the great American Civilization and decides to join them." Or something to that effect. (I mean it was like 4 or 5 years ago.) It happened 2 or 3 times in that game but never again. Anyone seen that before
Background: In this game I was maximizing my pop. Got it up to 86 million. My highest in Civ 1 or Civ 2. The Aztecs ruled some of North and South America and I had cities everywhere else. They didn't have the highest standard of living and that could explain it. But anyway....
