Imagine, if you will, the result of everyone here emailing Firaxis about a Scenario Editor for Civ3? They would be overwhelmed! Think of this as a sort of petition.

You can reach them here:

http://www.firaxis.com/contact_gamefeedback.cfm

This was my email for reference:

"Civ3 Scenario Editor!

Could you please tell me whether you plan to create a scenario editor for Civilization III and if so, whether it is planned for release with the Multiplayer Addon Pack or available as a free download.
This is the most wanted feature over at the www.civfanatics.com forums!

If you are not going to create a Scenario Editor, please inform us why not.

Thanks

-Stuart Docherty"

Let the revolution begin! :king:

It'll be a long letter, and it won't just be about a scenario editor!!

There is no need to organize a petition. We are acutely aware of the community's desire for these tools. We had hoped to have this extra functionality in the editor in time for shipping, but we ran out of time, and decided not to hold back the game for features that would ultimately only be used by a small (but important) valuable portion of the community.

Hopefully we can release a newer version of the editor with this functionality in it in the future, but we won't speculate on the possibility of this happening or on any potential features until we're certain we can deliver.

Dan

Good, we don't need speculation, especially from people working in the company. Could you answer - yes, we are currently working on the scenario editor, or no, we are not? No speculation required.

Rhandom, see this thread for why Dan probably won't give you a solid answer. Nice to see all that 'complaining' did some good.

There is a thread for suggestioins for the x-pack which we are going to give to firaxis - firaxis already knows we want a scenario editor however

Which is it? We send our suggestions including a functional scenario editor and what will happen?

Apparently your e-mail will be ignored. Recycled!

Thanks for the thought Firapsis. Nice one!

Thats pretty nice to hear..... in a vague, non-commital sorta way. I understand you've been burned by the slightest intimation of changes that later couldn't be produced..... so I am okay with the very general response. It is very encouraging. I look forward to the "New, Improved Editor".

If you're bored, email Firaxis' publisher and tell them you made your own Scenario Editor, and you'd like their help distributing it to the user community. Maybe they'll threaten to sue you, too.

In Firaxis' defense, this kind of thing -- creating a scenario editor, multiplayer, etc. -- really DOES TAKE TIME. If you don't believe me, try coding something on the scale of Civ3 by yourself, or even in a small team. Not to mention beta testing, dealing with OS/video card issues, etc.

It also takes money, but hopefully Civ3 sales have been enough that that isn't a major issue. :)

Woohoo! A company that care sabout it's fans!

Not only did Dan email me back today (with none of that automated nonce) he came to these forums and took the time to post.

It may not seem much but when you deal with some Games Companies, their apres game support can be colder than Anne Robinson's Death Stare!

Thanks Dan! Even tho we didn't get the definate yes that we were hoping for, at least it's not a definate no! :goodjob:

Dan, is there a chance that you will be releasing scenarios with the Multiplayer Addon?

Even if we can just get a maybe outta ya that would be grand :crazyeyes

Thanks

Cough, you know how I hate whinners, but I guess we can say beta testing was absent this time. They reckon it.

I'm not asking for promises of functionality. I want to know if they are even trying. I can accept that multiplayer may be impossible for the current crop of Firxais programmers to implement with Civ 3's code. In some ways, I suspect multiplayer won't work with Civ 3's at all.

I simply ask - are you trying to make it work, or has it been placed in the back of a file cabinet in the last stall of a non functional old bathroom in the basement of the firaxis headquarters. I'll accept either answer, but I don't want any iffy, maybe-we-will-maybe-we-won't non-answers.
